Born to Myrtie and Raymond Tooke, on February 24, 1938. He was a native Atlantan growing up in Morningside. He graduated from Grady High School and Georgia State University earning a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the School of Arts and Sciences. Later he furthered his education graduating from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law. Richard was a loyal employee of Scientific Atlanta for 42 years. He retired in 2001 as a Government Contract Manager. He was a man of various talents and interests. He was a Ham Radio Operator, Treasurer for 16 years for his Home Owners Association, served in the Air National Guard for 9 years and was an excellent photographer. As a member of Briarlake Baptist Church and the Progressive Mens Class for 48 years, he served on various committees, held class officer positions and taught Sunday School from 4 year olds to senior adult men.
He and his beloved wife Pat of 59 years have enjoyed their retirement years traveling extensively from the Grand Canyon, to Israel to China. Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father and “Big Daddy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Pat of 59 years, daughters Kristi Sheppard (Alan), Trisha Williamson (Michael) grandchildren Kelsey Nezat and Chayton Williamson, great grandchildren Lucille and Easton Nezat.
In lieu of flowers a contribution to CURE Childhood Cancer or Wellspring Living would be appreciated.
A memorial service for Richard will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 Lavista Rd, Decatur, GA 30033.
