Richard Lewis Weiner

October 12, 1957April 11, 2018

Richard Lewis Weiner, age 60, died on April 11, 2018 in Atlanta, GA. Richard is survived by his wife Yajaira Huice-Weiner and his three children Alejandra Ester Weiner-Bámaca, Kaysel Caribay Weiner-Huice and Samuel David Weiner-Huice, by his sisters Nan Weiner (Issie Lyon), Susan Crager, and Barbara Bainbridge (James) and by his nieces Sara, Mia (George), Naomi, Samantha (Erik), and by his nephews Adam (Fernanda), Aaron, and David. He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Gertrude Weiner of Minneapolis, MN, and by his sister Carole Weiner of Culver City, CA. Richard was a caring husband and his children were the heart of his existence. Richard’s core values -- kindness and honesty -- shaped his approach to the world and are his legacy to his children. He had total faith in the goodness of humankind and worked tirelessly to make this world a better place. He needed sunlight to thrive. He loved life in the tropics, running, hiking, scuba diving, paragliding, traveling, camping, and reading in a hammock by a river. He was an avid reader. He was also very proud of his command of the Spanish language and of his understanding of the Hispanic culture. Richard saw a special type of beauty in mathematics that he tried to instill in his students from all over the world. He was a very special type of man. We are going to miss him dearly! A Mass is scheduled for Richard on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 4 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church 3773 Chamblee Tucker Road, 30341. A celebration of Richard’s life will follow at 6 p.m. at the Weiner-Huice home, 3644 Wilton Avenue, Doraville 30340.

What a beautiful obituary for a kind hearted man. Richard taught my son math for a few years and I always enjoyed our thoughtful conversations when I had the opportunity to chat with him. May blessings and healing pour upon his family. I know he loved them so much.

Richard was such a kind and gentle man. Always friendly and easy to talk to. We shared many great conversations over lunch. We shared a mutual appreciation of good sandwiches! He told me about a place on Buford Hwy that made awesome subs, I need to find this place, so I can sample these subs that Richard strongly endorsed! I will miss my friend and colleague.
Rest in peace, Richard.

Mr. Weiner was more than just my teacher, he was my friend. He was a great man who was: kind, smart, funny, patient and forgiving. Even though I didn’t know him for an extended period of time he will have a loifelojg impact on me.
