
Rupert “Lamar” Singletary transition from this life to the eternal home prepared for him, in the early
hours of October 29th, 2021. Lamar passed peacefully in his sleep. Born August 11th, 1935, in Thomasville
Georgia and the third child of Rupert Lamar Singletary, Sr. and Claudia Baker Singletary. Lamar was
born, raised and married in Thomasville Georgia.
On August 11th, 1956, Lamar married Jacquelin “Jackie” Gladys Powell. Shortly thereafter, Lamar joined
the United States Air Force and was assigned to Lackland AFB, San Antonio Texas. After his enlistment,
Lamar, Jackie and their first‐born son, relocated back to Thomasville Georgia where their first daughter
was born. Then to Atlanta where their second daughter was born. A brief stay in Chattanooga and then
to Montgomery Alabama for a lengthy stay. Lamar and Jackie retired from owning their own retail
nursery and eventually moved to Lawrenceville Georgia, living in a downstairs apartment with their
daughter. Lamar lived is last active years and passed peacefully being cared for by Jackie, Susan, Butch,
Marc and Terri along with a whole host of Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren.
Lamar was quite busy throughout his lifetime with a multitude of hobbies and occupations. Nurseryman,
mechanical draftsman, professional wedding and portrait photographer, electronic service technician
and as a business owner. Lamar ventured into hobbies that occupied his desire to learn and experience
what life offered. He was a pilot, sailor, an artist, a musician, carpenter, wood worker, fisherman, Ham
radio operator as well as many others.
Lamar was preceded in death by his mother and father Rupert and Claudia Singletary, two sisters, Laura
Scott and Lucile Maxwell and his second daughter Carol Lynn Singletary.
Lamar is survived by his first and only love, his wife Jackie, their son Marc and his wife Terri Singletary
and daughter Susan and her husband Butch Samson. His grandchildren Jon and wife Melissa Singletary,
Kristin Johnson, Shannon and her husband Eddie Hernandez, Ashton and her husband Nathaniel Burtt,
Niki and her husband Ralph Alverez, Kimi Samson and Catlin Samson. Lamar is also survived by
greatgrandchildren Jack Hernandez, Lia Hernandez Ellie Hernandez Joshua Hernandez, Madison Burtt,
Payton Burtt, Ansley Burtt, Kate Singletary, Wyatt Singletary, Anthony Samson, Jordan Samson, Ralphie
Alverez, Sophie Alverez and Lincoln Alverez. Lamar is also survived by numerous dear friends.
Lamar ashes will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Gardens beside his daughter Carol.
