BELL, Sarah North Mrs. Sarah North Bell, age 83, died October 2, 2011, at her home in Atlanta where she had lived since 1958. She and Paul were the first home-owners in the community, and her neighbors say that they could set their watches by Sarah's morning and afternoon walks with her little dog, Missy. Sarah was born in Carrollton, Georgia, the fourth of fourteen children in the family of Sellie and Madge North. According to Sarah, the lessons learned on the family farm shaped her life and character. Sarah graduated from Roopville High School where she was honored with the Home Economics award. After moving to Atlanta, Sarah met the love of her life - Paul Bell, a handsome soldier who was returning from World War II. They married on Christmas Eve in 1948. After her marriage, Sarah's life became multi-faceted with time divided between her family, her church and her own interests. When her children were young, Sarah was a Sunday School leader at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church. In 1984, Sarah and Paul became charter members of her beloved Sunday School class, the "Pairs and Spares", at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Sarah held many leadership positions in the class but her strength and interest was in Outreach. That mission allowed her to buoy the spirits of those in need of her wonderful smile and twinkling eyes. Sarah's most highly prized possession was her family. However, she was always an unfailing source of strength and compassion for any loved one in need. Countless times during her life, Sarah offered the warmth of her home to her relatives and other young adults. Sarah was also an avid sports fan and competitor. She loved watching her kids play sports at Briarcliff High School. She and Paul also spent countless hours cheering on the Atlanta Braves. Sarah's memory will be cherished by her children and their spouses - Tony and Harriet Bell, Debbie Bell and Bill Slazyk, and Carol Bell and Katie Aldrich; her granddaughter, Jamie Brown and her husband, Brandon; and her special loves - her great- granddaughters, Abby and Livy Brown. Sarah will be remembered in the hearts of her surviving brothers and sisters: Francis Wages, Doris Barrett, Nita Nida, Geraldine Glaccum, Allene Eldridge, Charles and Betty North, Lewis and Gloria North, Kermit and Jeanette North, Linda and Herb Bennett, Larry and Vicki North and her numerous nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, and her brothers - Percy, Ralph and Bennie North. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the Youth Program at the First Baptist Church of Decatur or to the American Cancer Society . The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Decatur on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service at Arlington Memorial Cemetery following
