Solomon Demissie

Solomon Demissie, 59, died peacefully On Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Newnan, GA after a three-year battle with cancer. The son of the late Girazmach Demissie Dinku and Woizero Birhane Beyene, Solomon was born on April 5, 1955, in Assela, Ethiopia.

Solomon went to elementary school partly in Assela and then in Addis Ababa. Solomon completed his high school at Prince Mekonnen (now Addis Katama) Comprehensive High school where he was very popular as a boy scout. After graduating from high school, Solomon attended Haile Selassie I (now Addis Ababa) University for 1 year, before he came to Windsor, Ontario, Canada in August 1974 to complete his university studies. He joined St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology in September 1974 and graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Program with an M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering in May 1978. It was in Windsor that he met his first wife, Mozelle Harrison, and had his first and only child, Addisu, who was born on June 1, 1980.

In 1982, Solomon moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where his career and family would flourish for 9 years. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, USA in July of 1991, where he would live and work for the rest of his life. For 23 years, Solomon was a proud employee of Snapper Inc. (since acquired by Briggs & Stratton Corporation) in their manufacturing and fabrication groups. He married his wife Salome Yoseph on September 3, 1999, with whom he had a joyous, adventure-filled marriage until his time of passing.

As a proud Ethiopian immigrant, Solomon worked hard as one of the founders of the Ethiopian Community Association of Atlanta and was instrumental in making the association legal and acquiring its 501c3 tax exempt Status. Solomon was an avid sports fan and was a popular contributor to the Ethio-Atlanta Sports club. He was instrumental in bringing the 1998 ESFNA’s Soccer Tournament to Atlanta for which he worked in the capacity of chairman of the host committee. Solomon was a member of Sahilite Mihret Kidist Mariam Ethiopian Orthodox Church of Atlanta for which he contributed a lot to the construction of the new building.

Solomon is survived by his wife Salome, son Addisu, sister Demkech, brother Dawit, nephews Michael Tolosa and Luel Waktola, nieces Mahliet Demissie, Hana Demissie, Meaza Alemu, Terusew Haile, Azeb Haile, and Tizita Haile, and cousins Debebe Amde, Merid Amde, Ephrem Amde, Mulumebet Amde, and Alem Teffera. Along with his parents, he joins his sister Salome Demissie and nephew Aklilu Haile in the afterlife. He leaves behind numerous loving relatives and close friends who were with him through so many good times as well as the more difficult recent ones. The entire family would like to express its profound appreciation and love to all who enriched Solomon’s full life, and provided support and comfort in his final weeks.

Solomon was loved and respected by all who knew him. During his too brief visit on earth, he was a good father, husband, colleague and friend. He is already missed, but his memory and legacy will live on in all those whose lives he touched.

አቶ ሰለሞን ደምሴ

አቶ ሰለሞን ደምሴ ከአባታቸው ከግራዝማች ደምሴ ድንቁና ከእናታቸው ከወይዘሮ ብርሃኔ በየነ እ.ኤ.አ. April 4, 1955 አሰላ ከተማ ኢትዮጵያ ተወለዱ። ለጥቂት ዓመታት አሰላ የመጀመሪያ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን ከተከታትሉ በኋላ አባታቸው በሥራ ምክንያት ሲዛወሩ ወደ አዲስ አባባ በመምጣትአንደኛ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን በሺመልስ ሃብቴ ትምህርት ቤት፤ ከዚያም የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን በልዑል መኮንን አሁን አዲስ ከተማ ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤት በመከታትል አጠናቀዋል። ልዑል መኮንን ትምህርት ቤት በነበሩበት ወቅት የቦይ እስካውት አባል በመሆን ይታወቁ ነበር። የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን እንዳጠናቀቁ በቀዳማዊ ኃይለ ሥላሴ ዩኒቨርሲቲ አሁን አዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ገብተው ለሁለት ዓመታት ከተከታተሉ በኋላ እንደ ኢትዮጵያ አቆጣጠር በ1966 ዓ.ም. ወደ ኦንታሪዮ ካናዳ መጡ። ለትምህርት ካላቸው ከፍተኛ ፍላጎት የተነሳ ጊዜ ሳይሰጡ የዩኒቨርሲቲ ትምህርታቸውን በመቀጠል በሴይንት ክሌር የአፕላይድ አርትስና ቴክኖሎጂ ኮሌጅ በመግባት በሜካኒካል ኢንጂነሪንግ የማስተርስ ኦፍ ሳይንስ ዲግሪአቸውን በእ.ኤ.አ. June 1978 ዓ.ም. ተቀዳጁ። አቶ ሰለሞን በዚህ ወቅት ከመጀመሪያ ባለቤታቸው ከሞዜል ሃሪሰን ጋር በመተዋወቅ ከተጋቡ በኋላ የመጀመሪያውንና ብቸኛ ውድ ልጃቸውን አዲሱ ደምሴን በጁን 1 1980 ወለዱ። ለትምህርት ካላቸው ከፍተኛ ፍላጎት የተነሳ ልጃቸውን አዲሱን በከፍተኛ የአባትነት ሃላፊነት በማስተማር ከዬል ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተመርቆ ቀደም ሲል በፕሬዚዳንት ኦባማ ምርጫ ወቅት በሃላፊነት ደረጃ በአሁኑ ወቅት ደግሞ በከፍተኛ ሃላፊነት ላይ እንዲደርስ ያደረጉ በልጃቸው ከፍተኛ ኩራት የሚሰማቸው አባት ነበሩ።

እ.ኤ.አ. በ1982 ከዊንድሰር ወደ ቶሮንቶ ኦንታሪዮ ተዛውረው በሙያቸው ለዘጠኝ ዓመታት ከሠሩ በኋላ እ.ኤ.አ. በ1991 ወደ አትላንታ ጆርጂያ በመምጣት እስከ ሕይወታችው ፍፃሜ ድረስ ኖረዋል። በነኚህ 23 ዓመታት ስናፐር ኢንኮርፕሬትድ በአሁኑ ወቅት ብሪግስ ኤንድ እስትራተን ኮርፐሬሺን በሚባለው ኩባንያ በተለያዩ ታክኒክና የሃላፊነት ደረጃ እስከ ሕይወታቸው ፍፃሜ ድረስ በቅንነታን በታማኝነት አገልግለዋል። በዚህ ታታሪነታችው በተለያዩ ወቅቶች ሽልማቶችና ዕድገቶች አግኝተዋል።

እ.ኤ.አ. በ1999 ዓ.ም. በጤንነት ወቅት በደስታ፤ በሕመማችውም ወቅት ሳይሰለቹ በማስታመም በፍቅር አብረው የኖሩትን ውድ ባለቤታቸውን ወይዘሮ ሰሎሜ ዮሴፍን አግብተው እስከ ሕይወታችው ፍፃሜ ድረስ አብረው ኖረዋል።

በኢትዮጵያዊነታችው የሚኮሩ በመሆናቸውና ኢትዮጵያውያንን መርዳት በጣም የሚፈለጉ በመሆናቸው የአትላንታ ኢትዮጵያ ኮሚኒቲ ማህበር ከቀረጥ ነፃ የሆነ ሕጋዊ ድርጅት እንዲሆን ከታገሉና ካስፈጸሙት የቦርድ አባላት አንዱ በመሆን ከፍተኛ አገልግሎት ሰጥተዋል። ለእስፖርት ያላቸው ፍቅር ከፍተኛ በመሆኑ የኢትዮ አትላንታ ስፖርት ክለብ አባል በመሆን የእግር ኳስ ቡድኑ እንዲጠናከርና ጥሩ ውጤት እንዲያመጣ በተጫዋችነትና አመራር በመስጠት ብዙ ጥረዋል። በተለይም እ.ኤ.አ. የ1998 ዓ.ም. አገር አቅፉ የእስፖርት ውድድር ወደ አትላንታ እንዲመጣ በመታገል እንዲሁም ከመጣ በኋላ የአትላንታውን አስተባባሪ ኮሚቴ በመምራት ትልቅ አስትዋጽዖ አድርገዋል። በአትላንታ የምትገኘው የሰአሊት ምህረት ቅድስት ማርያም የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋህዶ ቤተክርስቲያን አባል የነበሩ ሲሆን ቤተክርስቲያኒቱ ለገነባችው አዲስ ሕንፃ የበኩላቸውን አስተዋጽዖ አድርገዋል። በአትላንታ የቁልቢ ገብሬል ጽዋ ማህበር አባልም ነበሩ።

አቶ ሰለሞን በካንሰር ሕመም ሲሰቃዩ ቆይተው ስላልተሻላችው ረቡዕ November 12, 2014 ከዚህ ዓለም በሞት ተለይተውናል። ውድ ባለቤታቸውን ወ/ሮ ሰሎሜ ዮሴፍን፤ ብቸኛ ውድ ልጃቸውን አዲሱ ደምሴን፤ እህታቸውን ደመቀች ደምሴን፤ ወንድማቸውን ዳዊት ደምሴን፤ የአጎቶቻቸውን ልጆችና ዘመዶቻቸውን ሚካኤል ቶሎሳን፤ ልዑል ዋቅቶላን፤ማህሌት ደምሴን፤ ሃና ደምሴን፤ መዓዛ ዓለሙን፤ ጥሩሰው ኃይሌን፤ ትዝታ ኃይሌን፤ደበበ አምዴን፤ መርዕድ አምዴን፤ኤፍሬም አምዴን፤ሙሉመቤት አምዴንና ዓለም ተፈራን እንዲሁም ውድ ጓደኞቻቸውን ትተው ነው በሞት የተለዩን። አቶ ሰለሞን በሕይወት በነበሩበት ወቅት በሁሉ ዘንድ ተወዳጅ፤ ለወገን ተቆርቋሪና ሃሳቢ፤ ለቀረባቸው ሁሉ ፍቅር የሆኑ ታላቅና የማይረሱ ባል፤አባት፤ ወንድም፤ዘመድና ጓደኛ ነበሩ።

በሕመማችው ወቅት በመርዳትና በመጠየቅ፤ከቤተሰቡ ጎን በመሆን በማስታመም፤ በመጨረሻም በዚህ ዕረፍታቸው ወቅት የኀዘናቸን ተካፋይ በመሆን በአካል ተገኝታችሁ፤ በስልክና በተለያዩ መንገዶች ኀዘናችሁን ለገለፃችሁልንና ላጽናናችሁን፤ እንዲሁም በመጨረሻው ስንብት ወቅት ከኛ ሳትለዩ ላስተዛዝናችሁን፤ በፍታቱና ቀብሩ ላይ ለተገኛችሁ ሁሉ ጥልቅ የሆነ ምስጋችንን እናቀርባለን። ቤተሰብና ጓደኞቹ
