Thomas (Tom) Allen Calvert (90 years young), Stone Mountain resident & Kentucky Colonel, was born on October 19, 1931 in Lexington, Kentucky to Omer T. & Ella Wilson Calvert. Tom went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on October 26, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lois Evelyn Smith Calvert; they are truly eternal sweethearts. Tom is survived by and loved by their children, Mark Calvert (wife Debbie) and Kris Dwyer (husband John); grandchildren, Marki (Michael), Abbi (Tim), Grace, and Jack; and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Boone. He wooed and won Lois’s heart in high school. After serving as an Army tank mechanic in the Korean War, Tom married Lois in 1953 and earned his B.S. degree from the University of Kentucky in 1960. He was a U.S. Department of Labor Statistician and known for his integrity and work ethic. Tom and Lois lived in Lexington, KY and Winter Park, FL before settling in Stone Mountain in 1971. He shared his yard with well-fed hummingbirds, songbirds, and deer. When Tom retired, Lois packed their bags for adventures in over 40 countries. They were enthusiastic members of First Alliance and Lilburn Alliance churches. Tom was a child of God, a good and faithful servant, and loved his church. He was involved in teaching senior tech classes, working oil change days, the Primetime senior group, and the men’s prayer breakfast. His children and grandchildren counted on Daddy/Granddaddy to fix toys, furniture, jewelry, and hurting hearts. He patiently taught his children and grandchildren how to ride bikes, drive, change tires, handle money, pray, be honest, honor God, and treat others. The shine of Tom’s calm spirit was the brightest as he quietly helped others. Celebration of Life service will be at Lilburn Alliance Church (Tucker, GA) at 1:00 p.m. on October 30, 2021, followed by a 3:00 graveside service at Floral Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Lilburn Alliance Church.
