Bill was born on May 19, 1932 in Panthersville, Georgia. He graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School in 1953, then attended the University of Georgia. On June 14, 1953, he married Shirley Louise Morrow, to whom he remained happily married for over 67 years. After serving in the Korean War, he graduated from law school at the University of Georgia and entered into practice with his father and uncle in the law firm of Cobb & Cobb. He continued to practice law until he retired at the age of 83 in 2015.
Bill and Shirley were active members of Kelley’s Chapel Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia. He was an avid sportsman, loving to hunt turkeys, doves, quail and to fish. He also farmed. But his favorite pastime was University of Georgia football.
Bill is survived by his daughters Leslie Cobb, Susan Cobb Abdellaoui, Tracey Cobb-Meyer, and grandchildren Hillary Hazard, Kelley Harris, Corey Crunk, Reed Meyer, Anastasia Crunk, Adam Abdellaoui and Sabrine Abdellaoui Dergal, and his sister Jacquelyn Cobb Temple. Bill is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Louise Morrow, his parents Wayman E. Cobb, Sr. and Gertrude Spain Cobb, and his brother, Wayman E. Cobb, Jr.
A graveside service will be held for family and close friends at Kelley’s Chapel Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 , at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
