Alfred Minor was called home early Saturday morning, April 24, 2021. He was the son of Jerry Minor Sr, of Grimes county, Texas and Floice Thelma Espy (aka Mrs. Luther Brewster) of Fannin County, TX.
He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers: James Carl Johnson, Jr., of Floyada, TX, Odell Johnson, of Sherman, TX, Jerry Minor Jr (1), of Grimes county, TX; and a stepbrother, Danny Herbert Lopez, son of Minnie Martin; and four sisters: Mrs. Jewel Riggins (Johnson), of Sherman, TX, Mrs. Lola Virginia Murkledove (Brown), of Amarillo, TX, Freddie Mae Minor, formerly of Williams, AZ, and Mrs. Alta Mae Picou, of San Antonio, TX; and a stepsister, Rose Marie Lopez (Cheta), of Tucson.
Surviving him are his wife, Brenda L. Minor, of the home, his daughter Rebecca Louise Minor, of Tucson; his two sons, Alfred Lopez-Minor (Alfred Jr) and Michael Lopez-Minor, both of Tucson. He also leaves a stepson from his first marriage, Charles Dancer, of Tucson; he leaves three siblings: his big brother, Jerry Minor Jr (2), of Tucson, AZ, big sister, Inez Coleman; and little brother, Joseph Minor, son of Katherine Mendez, all of Tucson. Alfred (Uncle Bug) leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. And a lot of good friends and neighbors too.
Alfred arrived in Tucson as a baby and was placed in the Arizona Children's Home by his father (along with his brother and sisters). He used to talk about "Momma Teeney" and of running away to Southgate. Eventually, Mr. Minor brought his children home and raised them up in South Tucson.
He attended Pueblo High School. As a freshman (1967), he joined the band and played the cello. He performed one recital at Doolen Jr. High. Alfred loved to sing and usually started the day off that way (singing in the shower, while he worked...etc). He was a happy man. He left public school and joined the Job Corps in Oak Glenn, CA. His course of study was Firefighting and Auto mechanics.
Alfred was inducted into the U. S. Army in August 1970. He served 1-year in Sweinfurt, Germany. He came home with high regard for the country and for the German people. He was discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey in March 1972.
When he returned home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Miss Roberta Green, of Tucson. There were no children born to this union. But had a stepson. They were divorced in 1979.
Alfred met Brenda Louise Howard in 1978 and were married on November 6, 1981. His first child came at the age of 34. She was born in 1985 and was a source of great joy for him. His first son was born 8-years later, in 1993. And Alfred's last child---his baby boy, was born in 1995. He was 44-years old. Both were sons of Miss Rosa Lopez (not the stepsister, Rose).
Alfred's favorite places A" Mountain, Southgate, San Xavier Mission, and the University of Arizona. When asked, he claimed to be Baptist. However, he was born again in a non denominational church called The Door. His favorite color was maroon (mahogany) and earthtones. Alfred's music was anything Motown and Janis Joplin. His nickname was "Bug" or "Buggie". He said it was because he used to bite when he was a baby boy. His childhood pet was a great dane named "Rags". Alfred always had a soft spot for strays...whether human or animal; Smokey and Sebastion were two of his adoptees.
Alfred's health began to decline in 1987. He suffered with debilitating skin disorders which forced him to retire and go on disability. On Sept. 11, 2001, just hours before the twin towers fell, Alfred suffered a brain injury that left him with ataxia and partial amnesia. He was wheelchair bound afterwards. Eventually, he did regain some of his lost memories. And he lived another 20-years and was surrounded by his family and his friends who loved him dearly. Rest in peace, Bug. We'll be missing you.
