On June 27, 1954 she was united in Holy Matrimony to R.E. Cox (also known as Ray Cox). To this union, after 5 years and much prayer from Elder Ernest S. Glass, Elder Lee Compton, the Saints, and R.E. and Mother Cox, five precious children were born, Rudell Erwin, Andrea Marie Cox Crowder, Avery Lynn, Ronald Edward, and Rory Dwayne Cox, and grandchildren – Rudell E’lon, Dontae’ Lamont (deceased), De’Onte Larance, Rochae’ Dominic, Andre Javon, Alexis, Avery Jr., Nicolas Ray, Natalie ReAnna, Noah John, Delanie Faith, Trinity Grace, and Leanna Hope; and three God-Daughters, Angie, Vanessa, and Breanna, and one God-Son, Herman Thompson Jr.

Mother Cox was involved in the community and church; affectionately known as “A Mountain Taxi” for the widows on her block.
Most important, she accepted the Lord at age 12 and joined Pleasant Holly Presbyterian Church in Woodville, Texas and was filled with the Holy Ghost in October 1953 at age 18, on a Tuesday night in Tucson, AZ. Shortly after that she moved back to Texas.
Mother Cox was a loyal and faithful worker in her church at the local and district level. She was a member of Knox City Texas COGIC and served as an usher. In October R.E. and Mother Cox moved to Tucson, Arizona where they became members of South Park COGIC under Pastor Ernest S. Glass. She served as Sunday School Secretary, personal secretary, and District Finance Secretary for Superintendent E. S. Glass, and as District Finance Secretary for Elder Cleo McCaa and Superintendent Rayford Strong. She also served as District President of the Minister’s Wives under District Missionaries L. V. Wethers, Lucille Maxwell, and Amie High. She loved God, His Son Jesus, his people, her husband of 37 years, and her God given children most dearly. She extended a very special thanks to her Pastor Lacey Colter Sr. and her “Sweet First Lady” for all the love, honor, care, and finances, and in her words said “who made sure I never went anywhere broke”. It was truly appreciated. She also mentioned her appreciation for all the love and happiness felt from the Sahuarita Church family. Again, in her words, “Thank you is not a strong enough word for what I enjoyed there with you. Keep it up believe me it’s worth it.”
Lastly, in her words “To my lovely sweet babies and all that I claimed as mine, I love you, love you, love you. Thanks for all the love and care you gave. Don’t forget to serve the Lord and be sweet to each other. Remember NO-o-o fussing or fighting or looking red-eyed at each other.”
She leaves to mourn two sisters – Johnnie Majors and Doretha Johnson, 1 daughter, 4 sons and their wives, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 4 god children, a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
If anyone would write my life’s story no matter for what reason it may be. In my story you would find that Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me!
