Apollo Dorian

Apollo "Nick" Dorian was born in NYC on October 2, 1922. He passed away January 25, 2012 in Tucson, AZ after a brief illness. He is survived by his longtime companion, Corinne Blake and brother George Watson. Nick graduated from the High School of Music and Art in NYC. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He enlisted in the Coast Guard which was then converted to the Navy during WWII where he was a Master Diver. He earned a Fine Arts Degree and Masters Degree from NYU. He taught drafting for many years at DeWitt Clinton High School in NYC. He then attended the Art Students League of NYC where he met and was taught by the great Illustrator Frank J. Reilly. He was a Monitor in Mr. Reilly's classes for many years. After Reilly's passing in 1967 Nick volunteered as a Combat Artist in Vietnam as a tribute to Mr. Reilly. Nick's work can be viewed at the Naval Museum in Washington, DC. He retired in 1978 and moved to Tucson, AZ where he wrote the book "Values For Pictures Worth A Thousand Words" which was based on his class notes from Mr. Reilly.
