There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you Dr. Kiarash.  I know I am not the only patient of yours that wishes you were still here to help those of us that you were still healing.  My hip is absolutely wonderful. However, the other joints you were going to replace are now being delayed over and over again by the new doctors I have been given to.  It is insane what is happening to your patients that had so much hope in you.  Hope has now dwindled to despair.  The pain of losing a genius  in medicine as yourself who did not judge his patients, is devastating.   The fear of other doctors to treat us as you once did is overwhelming.  I know I am not the only patient of yours who is experiencing what I am now being put through.  I wonder if God is letting you see us.  I wonder if God is letting you hear our sadness and tears of losing you.  If God where to grant me one wish, I would wish for you to be back in our lives.  At this time I have lost all hope of ever walking without pain again.  I have lost all hope of ever trusting another doctor to work miracles as you once did.  I don't know why God always takes the good people out of our lives.   I pray everyday that God will provide your unhealed patients with another surgeon who is as great as yourself.   

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Kiarash’s passing. I wanted to send him an email to thank him for my ankle surgery 4 years ago. I haven’t raced a half-marathon since 2011 and yesterday I broke my personal record and without any joint pain or instability. I remember Dr. Kiarash as a kind, funny, and introspective man. As a  physician he took my complaints seriously and made it a priority to ensure I was fully understood and was comfortable with the operation and recovery process. His spirit and care will be missed. 

My shared Memory, I just found out about the passing of Dr Kiarash, looking for his "Group" site! I was busy in Feb. coming back from a Heart Attack and didn't followed more than Dr. Hoover Cardio instructions. My recollection of Dr. Kiarash, sliding  around on his stool, telling me how exact my ankle replacement will be, then preforming the operation and having it work just like he said. That is why I was fortunate to have met, been operated on, consulted with the "BEST" there was!!

I just heard today of Dr. Kiarash's passing. He was my orthopedic doctor/surgeon for the last 7 years, and did a minor revision of my partial knee replacement this past December. He was kind, honest, witty, and always listened closely to my concerns. He helped me when no other orthopedic surgeon would even talk about all options. He was a wonderful doctor, and  Tucson's orthopedic community has suffered a great loss. I wish I could have said goodbye to him. I will truly miss him.

I called the office today after 3 years of hiding from the fact that i had to again have surgery, my 11th one. Ario performed all 10 of my previous ones, being that at 38 I needed replacement knees. He went to every length to save my knees due to my being so young and a TKR isnt even really considered for someone my age, so he dis thw the next beat he replace half of both of my knees. We knew that my real bones wiuld eventually fail and when i was tild in 2015 that it was time I panicked and preteneded that i was fine. Now pain in unberable and I called to make appointment and was told the only man that I trusted with my knees was gone was a huge shocker. My condolences to the family and the staff, He was truly a remarkable person and I dont know what to even do now. But as i go forward i pray his hand will guide anybody else who decides to take me on as a patient.

What a GREAT LOSS for Tucson, Az!!!  Ario was and will FOREVER be the BEST ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON ever!!  I was his patient for over 15 years, ever since he was at TOI and followed him ever since.  He operated on my ankle several times until he performed a total ankle 11 years ago and just recently another one in September.  I WILL NEVER find another one like him, RIP Ario!!!!!

I miss Dr. KIARASH . Since I got the news of his passing I have not stopped thinking about him and how he helped me when no other surgeon would. Thank Dr. KIARASH Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry to hear of my surgeons passing. I needed surgery on my feet very badly to the point I could not walk without pain. I was refused surgery by two separate orthopedic  surgeons due to my addiction to methampetimines . I went to see doctor kiarash and was honest with him about my addiction. He didn't judge me or in no way made me feel embarrassed or shameful about myself. He performed surgery on both my feet and they look like beautiful normal feet again. Because doctor kiarash told me my foot will fall off if I keep using meth after surgery  that was enough to scare me so while I recovered after surgery I did not use drugs. To this day I quit using drugs and i can truly say he had a helping hand in my recovery. He was a good man ,a great surgeon with a big heart. My condolences  to your family

Our deepest condolences to the Kiarash family for the loss of a vibrant man who lived and worked with passion and tireless energy. My husband had three foot surgeries and can walk because of the efforts of Dr. Kiarash. For that miracle we shall be eternally grateful. Ario will also be in your hearts forever.

So sorry to hear of this terrible loss to the orthopedic community. I had a hip problem that was corrected in 2015 with a new hip by another doctor. After that surgery I never fully healed and continued to have problems and new problems develop. Doctor Kiarash  found the problem.   The day I walked into his office he knew what was wrong. He corrected it surgically and I will always remember him. He knew what he was doing. My condolences to his family as I only learned of this terrible loss this morning.

Dr. Kiarash I want to speak to you one more time before the Guest Book is closed. I know you are listening as I pray to God for guidance in moving forward with all new surgeons. This is so, so hard to comprehend It seems like it just was yesterday when you told me your plans for retirement. I remember telling you that you could not retire until I was fully healed. 

Dr. Kiarash please be with me today and until I am back on my feet. I will be meeting a new surgeon today to take up where we left off. Complete terror is to say the least as I move forward with the healing process. I pray that you guide them to understand my complicated health history. May they believe in me as you did.  Just walking through the doors of the clinic is proving to be a challenge for me.  Honestly, I don't know if I will be able to handle it. I know you see the fear that other patients are feeling too. I will miss you putting your healing hands upon me and telling me that everything will be okay. That you have my back and we would deal with everything step by step. Please continue to be with me step by step as I start all over again. Thank you again for healing my left hip, and finding the disease that plagued my ankle. Thank you for bringing happiness into so many of your patients lives, including mine. You are a hero. A true medical hero! God truly blessed me the day I met you.

We thank you for sharing him with us,  he's touched so many lives, and most recently mine with performing surgery on my misdiagnosed foot injury. He saw me on 12/19 and performed surgery on 12/21. I put weight on my foot for the first time today, I'll be thanking him for every step from this day forward.

There are no words at a difficult time like this, just beautiful, precious memories. He was such a kind and compassionate person who touched countless lives. Sending much love from my heart to yours. 

Dr. Kiarash properly diagnosed a broken bone in my right ankle after the injury had been misdiagnosed as a sprain at a hospital in Los Angeles;  the incident happened while I was on a business trip.  With correct diagnosis and effective treatment, the healing process proceeded very quickly, and within a month most of the healing had already taken place.  Dr. Kiarash demonstrated that he considered me an intellectual equal, and his explanations and directions were delivered with clarity, kindness, and humor.  I was very saddened to learn (today) of his sudden passing.  He was a treasure in the Tucson community, and to all who had a chance to know him.

He was a wonderful physician and human being.  I am deeply saddened by this huge loss to our community.

Our hearts break for this immense loss and we are missing you terribly! We are grateful for the blessing of your friendship and your care second to none! May you have the peace only God can give as we send you off on your journey with so much love and gratitude for touching our hearts in your special way. You will be forever missed, Ario!

Dr. K was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor.  He did total knee replacements on both my knees and I was very pleased.  I pray for his working family and especially for his wife and children, he will be greatly missed.  We have lossed a great man and surgeon, but our heavenly father has gained a special man we call an angel.  Rest in peace.

I am heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of dear Dr. Kiarash. He was such an amazing doctor with a big heart and beaming smile who truly cared for his patients. His humor and laugh were infectious and always made a rough situation so much more bearable. I am eternally grateful to him for his expertise and the quality of life he gave back to my husband. Dr. Kiarash was a true living angel. My husband was his patient in 2001. He was taken to the emergency room after a head on car accident. Other doctors had looked at my husband and recommended amputating from the knee down. My husband who was young, newly married  and just starting a life and a new business  begged to not have his foot amputated. This is when we met the wonderful doctor Kiarash. Dr. Kiarash saw a young man too young for an amputation and willing to try anything to save his foot. And although he said my husband's foot was literally a bag of bones he would definitely try to fix the foot and try to give him some quality of life for as long as possible. After having 7 surgeries in 3 years my husband was eventually out of a wheelchair and walking. He was even able to continue working and expand his business. This would NEVER have been possible without Dr Kiarash. It has been almost 15 years and last year my husband had some minor issues with his foot and specifically sought Dr. Kiarash as he only trusted him with this issue. Amazingly, he remembered my husband just as we remember him. We had gotten to know him well during those three years  and he had never forgotten us just as we had never forgotten him. His caring and compassion for others is what makes him a truly wonderful human being in addition to being a great doctor and friend. He was a kind, loving, caring person with a huge heart. I am sure this story is one of thousands from those impacted by this great man. Our prayers are with his wife, daughters, and family. God bless you and rest in peace Dr. Kiarash. You will be missed. 

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing Dr Kiarash. In 2005, my 18y.o. daughter was in a motorcycle accident. We were so incredibly blessed that Dr. Kiarash was the orthopedic surgeon on call that night at UMC trauma center. She was immediately taken to the OR and after a night long surgery, he emerged about 5am and found us in the waiting room. He sat down and said "she is a very lucky girl". He said that three motorcycle victims came in through the ER that night and she was the only one who made it out of the OR alive. Over the next year, he performed two more surgeries and another one in 2013. I wasn't sure she would ever walk or run correctly. By saving Jessica's life, you saved our lives too. We will forever be indebted and thankful. Due to his expertise, she is now a Spartan racer. My condolences to his entire family. Dr. Kiarash....you are one in a million, may you rest in peace.

"In honor of Dr Kiarash I toasted him with a Starbucks Vente coffee  because whenever he was late to the operating room to begin the many surgeries on my feet, I assumed he was drinking coffee, relaxing and reading the newspaper in the hospital cafeteria---- as I lay in a backless hospital gown waiting.  (And that became one of our many private jokes for years--- that he was worth waiting for, and I agreed and waited.)  
 
 May his loving wife and daughters know how loved he was for his big heart, his big personality, his sense of humor and his Healing Hands .  "Thank you for sharing him with all of us."

My heart breaks for Dr. Kiarash's family. I would like them to know that because of Dr.Ario Kiarash , I CAN WALK AGAIN.
Another surgeon had replaced BOTH of my knees TWICE within 3 years . I was falling all the time thinking my R.A must be at fault.  I was terribly wrong.
Dr. Kiarash had a very sad look on his face when he let me know the knees were " loose " and would never heal. They had large Bakers Cysts which I had never been told about. Last year he performed the painful surgeries AGAIN on BOTH knees. ( THREE new knees in less than FOUR years )

Because of Dr. Kiarash I CAN WALK AGAIN.  NEVER has there been a doctor that has been willing with full confidence , to watch me cry but to tell me that he WOULD FIX MY KNEES.

He did this past year.  My final appointment was to be soon.  Grateful is not a strong enough word to express my adoration for this fine human being who so many times did for others as he did for me. My husband David and I will NEVER forget him.  With complete sadness and the deepest condolences I can manage to put on this obituary site for his family......I will thank God eternally for the gift of Dr. Kiarash. Dr. Kiarash delivered what he promised . Thank God I told him several times that he had done what he promised. LOTS of PAIN but HIS new knees would be perfect.  They are. I will be forever grateful to have had Dr. Kiarash as my orthopedic surgeon. He was kind, caring and projected his confidence that he would relieve me of the pain that limited my mobility. I had a hip replacement and lost my pain and regained my enjoyment of outdoor activities. There are no words to say how sorry I am for the heartbreaking loss of Dr Kiarash.  I have been his patient for 10 years and I will never forget how he was so patient and kind with me and how his smile lit up the room the moment he walked through the door.  He always made me feel so much better with his kindness, words and that smile of his!  He was my surgeon on three occasions.  I chose him over five other orthopedic surgeons because I knew he was the best.  He literally undid the damage caused by a podiatrist on my left foot and then he repaired my right arthritic foot as well.   I'll never forget how he gently held my foot in both his hands when he spoke to me about what to expect.  Dr Kiarash you were truly an amazing, beautiful, compassionate  person and surgeon and you made it easy to love you!  Rest in Peace Ario Kirash.

Dr Kiarash operated on many members of our family. Several of them, more than once. We found him to be kind, caring, and fun to talk to. He seemed like an old friend, not our doctor, every time we visited him. Our family is saddened by his passing - he will always be remembered for his smile and warmth. My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. I had only gotten to know Ario over the past year after he joined the Centurions. He always had a great presence about him and was a pleasure to get to know. So sorry for such an unexpected loss.

Obituary

Kiarash, Barzan Ario, passed away on February 10, 2018. He was a beloved Tucson community member who cherished family, friendship, philanthropy and the pursuit of knowledge.

Ario, enjoyed spending time with family and friends joking and laughing, reading voraciously, history, politics, movies and golf were his passions. His laugh was as big as his spirit. Anyone that knew Ario knows that it was always a good time when you were with him. Always one to challenge authority and never back down, but the first to offer you a hand. A truly selfless man both personally and professionally. A true renaissance man, Ario was always reading in pursuit of knowledge and an avid technologist. Life will truly be different without him sitting at the firepit with a cigar and whiskey.

Born July 13, 1962 in Tehran, Iran. At age 19, Ario departed for London, England where he spent 3 years pursuing his education. He then came to the United States, to continue his studies at the University of North Texas at Denton, where he met the love of his life, Neda, at the age of 22.  Graduating with a major in biology at the University of Texas in Dallas in 1988, he then continued by graduating from the George Washington University School of Medicine with distinction in 1994. He completed his internship in general surgery at the same medical center in 1995. Ario finished his residency in orthopedic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1999. Then he completed his fellowship for orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, AZ in 2000. He practiced at Tucson Orthopaedic Institute until 2005, when he established Southwest Orthopaedic Surgery as President and an active surgeon. 

He was also clinical assistant professor at the of University of Arizona Department of Orthopedic Surgery and had numerous professional publications and presentations at orthopedic associations. 

He was an active member of The Centurions and was supporter of many charities in Tucson including Angel Charity for children and Pima County Medical Society Alliance and was a sponsor of the Veterans Purple Heart tournament.

Ario leaves behind his beloved wife, Neda, precious daughters Arianna and Persia, father Jalil, mother Soraya, sister Amy, brother Atta, mother-in law Mimi, sister-in-law Nina and brother-in-law David.

Ario's family will celebrate his life Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, 4 PM at Hacienda Del Sol, 5501 N Hacienda Del Sol Rd Tucson. Casa Luna Ballroom. Contributions may be made in Ario's name to the Centurions Foundation via www.thecenturions.com

Ario, I'll miss your enthusiastic greeting each time I'd see you.  You're a gentle man with a deeply loving soul. Id just gotten to know Ario in the last few months.  He and I sat by each other at a Centurions holiday party and we laughed the night away.  After hearing all of my brothers tributes - I feel lucky to have met him and will cherish the brief time I was around this great man.   

My heart is so heavy; Dr. Kiarash performed several surgeries on me.  He was the sweetest, kindest man and always managed to calm you down.  He was a skilled surgeon and never seemed to get rattled.  He will be sorely missed.

My sincere sympathies.  He was a foot expert!  I had four surgeries on both feet and I can now walk without pain.  I called to confirm an appointment for hip pain when I learned he had passed!  He was a caring surgeon whose patients were blessed to be in his care.  I know I was.

Heartfelt sympathies to the Kiarash family and to his staff and colleagues.  I am the grateful recipient of two hip replacements, one knee and one ankle, all done by him.  Dr. Kiarash greatly improved the quality of my life for which I am very grateful.

I didn't know Dr. Kiarash very long. I worked for him about a year. He was a very jovial man. His whole face smiled. Loved his smile! He was always friendly to the staff and often bringing in donuts to share.  He would sometimes stroll into work on his off days, wearing Bermuda tops, shorts and flip flops. I LOVED it! He really cared about his patients. That was his bottom line. He gave the impression that he was from the old school of thought, where Doctors cared  less about the  business side and more about connecting with the patient.  I know his patients will surely miss him. I am very sorry for the family he has left behind. My heart goes out to you. I will be making a donation to the Centurions. He used to
volunteer with them every year at Comic-Con. He gave all the employees free passes every year. He was a very thoughtful, caring and generous man. I am very sorry for your loss.

So sadden to here this news this morning!  Dr Kiarash was a doctor that thought outside the box and considered whole care rather then just conventional medicine.  I went to see Dr Kiarash when another Ortho had ruined my feet.  The insight I got from Dr. Kiarash is something I've utilized for my entire health care.  God Bless him and his family.  Rest In Peace Dr. Kiarash.

In late 2001, suffered a major foot injury which would require amputation. I had never met Dr. Kiarash prior to the amputation surgery at TMC. The first time he saw me was just my leg, prepped for surgery on the table in the OR.  When I awoke back in my hospital bed, I realized the foot was still there. Confused, I asked the nurse if I had been in for surgery yet. She said yes and that the surgeon would visit with me later. That was when I first met Dr. Kiarash. He said "I had the saw in my hand and I couldn't do it", "I can't make any guarantees, but if you're willing to hang in there, I'll try to save your foot". Eight surgeries later, he had saved the foot and I was walking again, and I am still going strong today. Spending a lot of time together, I became close with Ario. Our kids were the same ages and he talked often about little Arianna and his new baby Persia. Ario was a proud father, and a masterful and caring surgeon. My family and I have always owed him a great deal of gratitude. I know he touched many lives the same way. My prayers go out to you Arianna and Persia, your Father was a great man and he loved you both very much.        - Mike T.
