September 15, 2001 — November 7, 2025 (Age 24)
It is with the heaviest of hearts and immeasurable grief that we announce the passing of our beloved Arturo Julian Gastelum, who was tragically taken from us in a senseless act of violence on November 7, 2025, at just 24 years old.
Arturo was so much more than words can express. He was a beloved son, stepson, brother, boyfriend, nephew, godson, grandson, cousin, friend, and co-worker, cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing him. His presence brought joy, laughter, and light wherever he went. Arturo had a heart overflowing with compassion and generosity — he would quite literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need.
From a young age, Arturo demonstrated a maturity and work ethic far beyond his years. He was a provider and protector, deeply devoted to his family and those he loved. He carried a quiet strength, always stepping up to help, to encourage, and to comfort others. Whether through his humor, his hard work, or his simple presence, Arturo had a way of making people feel safe, loved, and valued.
He was known for his playful spirit and his ability to make anyone laugh. His sense of humor and infectious laugh could light up even the darkest days. Beneath his playful exterior was a young man of deep conviction — stubborn at times, yet fiercely loyal, determined, and kind-hearted. He had big dreams and a life full of potential ahead of him.
Arturo’s sudden passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his love and light will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be eternally missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Celina Angelica Altamirano; his siblings, Priscilla (Purse), Michael Jr. (Mini Mike), and Melanie (Mel Mel); as well as his extended family and countless friends who were like family to him.
To his loved ones, Arturo was a constant source of joy and comfort — a son who made his mother proud, a brother who protected and teased in equal measure, and a friend who could always be counted on. His legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, and generosity.
Every night, you could often find him gazing at the stars at Gates Pass. For him, it wasn’t just an escape, it was a sacred moment of peace and reflection. He held a deep, unspoken appreciation for the beauty of the Tucson sky, stars and the way the earth felt, offering a feeling words could never quite capture.
Though his time with us was far too short, the impact of Arturo’s life is eternal. His laughter will echo in our memories, his kindness will continue to inspire, and his love will remain forever imprinted on our hearts.
The family kindly requests that floral tributes or gifts in Arturo’s memory be sent to SouthLawn Mortuary, where arrangements are being made to honor his beautiful life.
As we grieve the loss of such an extraordinary young man, we also celebrate the gift of his life — a life that reflected love, light, and selflessness in every way. May his soul rest in everlasting peace, and may we each continue his legacy by loving others as he did — fully, freely, and from the heart.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
