

Arvetta Pearl Neely was born in Marshall, TX to Willie and Era Mae Young. At age 12, the family moved to Phoenix. Arvetta completed her formal education and college, obtaining a Practical Nursing degree. She enjoyed employment at St. Joseph’s hospital and opening her heart and home to countless foster children, spanning three decades.
Early in her youth, she gave her heart to Jesus, fellowshipping with saints of all faiths. Beginning at Emmanuel COGIC under Pastor Felton King. She met and married Robert Lee Brewer. To their union, they had four children: Cheryl, Marian, Robert, and Dwight. Marian and Dwight both preceding her in death. Arvetta also became guardian of then 11 year old Cynthia.
In 1970, Arvetta married James Wesley Neely, Relocating to Tucson, she brought her family to South Park COGIC under Pastor Ernest Glass. To their union are four children: Monique, Jerry, James Jr., and Jonathan. In 1993, her husband, James, preceded her in death.
Learning was her passion. She acquired an associate degree in General Studies at the age of 60, which fostered her love of writing and inspired her to write poetry.
In her great love of the saints, She maintained fellowship with several of her nun friends from St. Joseph’s, Bacon Memorial (Trinity Hope) COGIC, and in her senior years with Tucson Sharon SDA church. Arvetta truly loved the body of Christ!
Arvetta leaves to cherish her memory: her children Cheryl Thompson, Robert Brewer, Cynthia Carter, Monique Neely, Jerry (Stacey) Neely, James (Alex) Neely Jr., Jonathan (Jennifer) Neely, her sister Jean (Charles) Jones, 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
