That was a beautiful tribute to my Aunt Barbara. Thank you so much for taking the time to honor this great lady. It sounds as if you got to know her very well through your neighborly conversations. You even taught me a few things that I never knew about her life!
If there is a heaven, she is certainly there, enjoying its bounty.

My husband Alex and I became next-door neighbors with Barbara in 2011.  We also became friends, and we stayed friends even through our various moves. We moved away in 2013 but had the opportunity to move back in 2014 and moved right next door to Barbara again... then had to move for work again.  We came back again to stay in 2016 and bought a home in the neighborhood, walking distance to Barbara's house.

A few things I will always remember about Barbara; please forgive me if any of the facts are screwy. She was a native Tucsonan, all 93 years of her life. As a girl, she rollerskated on Grant Rd.  The area out near Oracle and Whetmore was chicken farms, and she used to help chase them out of the trees with a stick.  She and her first husband, "Doc" built their house on Silver Street from plans from Better Homes and Gardens, starting when their oldest son Richard ("Dick") was one year old and they lived in the garage.  She had 3 sons with Doc-- Richard, Don and Duane.  She told me that she never slept through the night after having had her children. Richard pre-deceased her, as did her 2 husbands and many of her friends. When she and her second husband Leon married after retirement, she had no idea they'd live long enough to be together for over 20 years.  She loved her kids, grandkids and the family she acquired through Leon. She loved cats, and many people gave her items for her collection of cat objects. She had a sweet tooth, and the Creme Brulee from Beyond Bread was her favorite.  Even at 93, she managed to keep her own teeth and also not need reading glasses. She taught me to plant zinnias in the summer and petunias in the winter, and I tried to bring her flowers from my garden whenever I could.  Sunflowers cheered her.  She was my friend, and Alex's also.  We will miss her.

Dear Diane and Don: 

I just got this message a short while ago. I'm so very sorry. I think you know how much I loved my Aunt Barbara. For twenty years she was like a second mother to me. I always felt like she would do almost anything for me, and I don't think that I, in return, ever treated her with anything but respect. I was really hopeful that I would get to see her again and now regret not having returned to Tucson to visit sooner. I hope that her passing was serene. I know from visiting Don's Facebook timeline that you two made it back in time to see her. I'm so glad of that. I'll be thinking of you and all the other relatives in the days ahead. Please give my regards and condolences to all.
