Carol was born on October 14, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spent most of her life in Tucson, a place she proudly called home. Over the years, she built a life rooted in family, hard work, and deep personal connections.
She leaves behind a large family to be proud of. Carol is survived by her five children: sons Clyde, Edward, Michael Benzenhoefer, daughters Judy Malichky and Angela Downing; her daughters-in-law, Michelle Benzenhoefer and Kathy Cunningham; her son-in-law Brian Downing; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved cats, Cinderella and Contessa, who were truly her pride and joy in her later years and brought her constant comfort and companionship. Carol also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, both in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
Carol was known for lighting up a room. She was extremely caring, full of life, and always genuinely interested in the lives and accomplishments of those she loved—especially her family. She loved to cook and bake, and her pecan bars were legendary to anyone lucky enough to enjoy them.
Carol built a career she was proud of working in the garage door opener industry with Chamberlain Manufacturing. Her work ethic, reliability, and dedication earned the respect of those she worked alongside and reflected the independence and strength she carried throughout her life.
Later in life, Carol achieved an accomplishment she deeply cherished. At the age of 48, she graduated from the University of Arizona on December 31, 1981, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Her academic excellence was formally recognized, and she was among a small group of students selected for special internship opportunities based on her outstanding academic achievement.
Carol is now reunited in heaven with her mother, Mary E. Anderson; her sisters, Jo Tornese and Kathy Maloney; her brothers, Jimmy and Marty Anderson; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Benzenhoefer, wife of her son Clyde and her son-in-law Lesley Malichky, husband of her daughter Judy.
