After a brief week in Oxford, MS, where he planned to relocate, Earl, as he was known to family and friends, succumbed at the home of his oldest son, Robert. He was full of anticipation about his new life in Oxford, even as he was grieving the recent loss of his beloved wife, Virginia, whom he first saw when she was fourteen, and loved for all their long life together. They were married for 67 years.
Earl was a WWII veteran of the South Pacific, serving on an LST. He was a loving father to his three children, Robert (Carol), of Oxford, John (Nancy), of Tucson and Kearny, and Virginia Tyson (Dale) of Wilmington, OH. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Dorsey, and two sisters, Marea Stamey and Lura Mae Chambers, of the Atlanta metropolitan area. He had five grandchildren and six great grandchildren of whom he was proud.
Earl Dorsey spent his youth in North Georgia, moving to Atlanta in his teens. After WWII, he and Virginia married and he worked for the Southern Railroad. In 1955 he moved his family to Tucson, and worked for Tucson Electric Power Company until he retired in 1987. He was a loyal friend and the best man he could be every day. His standards were high.
