

Charles Francis Krecke, MD died peacefully, just shy of his 86th birthday in Tucson, AZ, on December 14, 2012. Chuck had resided for the past 15 years in Tucson after living most of his life in southern Michigan. He had practiced and taught radiology for several years at University of Arizona Medical Center, retiring in 2009. Born on December 24, 1926, in Detroit, MI to Norman and Frances (Currie) Krecke, Chuck graduated from Southeastern High School in 1944; attended the University of Notre Dame Naval V12 MD Program and was in active duty in the US Navy until his honorable discharge in 1946; graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS 1948; received his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1953. Chuck first trained at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI and completed his radiology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He served in the US Air Force as a medical officer at Sheppard AFB, TX and Elmendorf AFB, AK and was honorably discharged in 1961 with the rank of Major. Chuck met Anne Elizabeth McKamy in Grand Rapids, MI and they married May 18, 1957. They have three children Karl (Susan), Paul and Kathy as well as five grandchildren Catherine, Charlotte, and Karl Krecke and Thomas and Matthew Boundy. Chuck's daughter Pati Allen and her son Aaron reside in TX. For many years, Chuck's radiology practice was centered at Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI where he served as chairman of the Department of Radiology from 1967 to 1981. He was president of the Michigan Radiologic Society and a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. He loved radiology, the medical profession and teaching. He loved the University of Michigan, the Great Lakes, the American Southwest and the great outdoors. He loved history, fishing, golf, travel and his German heritage. He loved good food and drink with family and friends. He had a big boisterous personality and was frequently the biggest voice in the room. He was frequently right, and never in doubt. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Memorial service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY on December 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Michigan or the Salvation Army.
