I just found out that Charles passed. My sincerest condolences.

When I first met Charles I was 12 or 13, He immediately stood out to me as he was different from any male that I had ever been around in my life.  We would talk for hours about science, religion, sports you name it.  Every time I was around him I felt safe and happy; knowing I’d learn something new. Through all of my adolescence into adulthood, he always encouraged me to do my best and the importance of college education. The day I failed nursing school one semester I called him and he reassured to me that I would get through it.  Although he wasn’t able to see me graduate I know he would have been extremely proud.  The last time we were together we sat down to eat and I just remember how I felt things were coming full circle. I had went from a boy to a man with a son on the way.  Thank you brother I will miss you , and I am thankful to have been influenced by you.  You were the grandfather I never had!

then working with William (Bear) Holland and Shirley Dimas in Computer Services

You will be sorely missed by those who knew you at Pima College. It seems like only yesterday you were good-naturedly pranking Butch Melser by dressing up his office with UA colors and such after a Wildcats win over the ASU Sun Devils. You've been a good man, and someday I hope to see you once more.



You're going to be missed brother.. Blessed to have been able to work by your side while at Pima. Your infectious laugh always brightened up my day. Favorite memory would have to be of us listening to Turquoise Jeep listening to Lemme Smang It, haha. Heaven gained an Angel my man SMANG IT!

I have known Charles since 1976 when I came to Tucson the first time. He was friend of our family. He and my uncle  the late Vasco Hale are in the same faternity Omega Psi Phi. My Uncle was district leader and Charles assistted him. He was a Que dog all the way.  He loved and was loyal to every facet of the faternity, and my uncle. He showed my cousin Ardith Hale, and  I around the U of A and escorted us to all the parties.  He made sure we were respected and safe. We affectionately called him Fraca brother. I left and moved to Texas. Came back in 1998. Charles and I reconnected because we both worked at Pima. He still knew about every party, and black event in Tucson. And was still my Fracka brother.  RIH my friend in your purple and gold. We love you.

Words cannot describe, the shock and disappointment I had when I heard. Your words of encouragement and a smile are something I will never forget! I really am grateful I had an opportunity to meet and work with you. I know you're truly going to be missed by everyone you touched. Keep smiling brother, I know heaven is happy you're there now. Until we meet again, my friend.


Charles, So many,many years we've known each other. Two memories - your love of purple and the Wildcats. Bear down, Charles. Hang with the red and blue in heaven.


As a kid I use to climb in the tree in the  front yard of your parents home; whether you were resting from work, in or out, whenever you saw my cousins and me in that tree you would smile that big smile and never give us any grief. Later in life, after eulogizing my Granny and laying her to rest, I was standing staring off in the distance in a daze and holding my pallbearer gloves with an extremely tight grip. You place one had on my shoulder and the other on my hands and told me "it is okay to let go now, son." those wound up being the last words we exchanged and meant the world to me. Rest well family, hope to see you when I get there. Jon Purdie.

I got to tell Charles several years ago that I felt that I was a better person having known him that was just how Charles was. He was THAT person. My favorite memory of him was many years ago when I was single I would take him to the store and we would go food shopping at the same time on Fridays after work. We were in a Safeway and we got into an argument about if Fish was a (proper) meat. This went on through the entire store. Everyone around us found it quite amusing. I miss my friend and the fun times we had together. 
Picture is of Charles trying to lift a concrete bench, he busted his belt, we all had a good laugh, no one more so that Charles. Always a fun time with him around.

Charles was family as our families had known each other longer than I’d been alive. You always had a big smile and a kind word for everyone. Between you and my Granny, I got my first real job at Pima. What I learned there, I still use today. I know you spoke into many lives. You are already missed. See you when I get there Cousin. ❤️
