

was the youngest of 9 children. Her parents moved Clara and her siblings to Tucson, Arizona, when she
was a baby. Clara did not remember her time in Arkansas, but she had always hoped to have made a
trip to visit her birthplace.
Clara joined Prince Chapel AME Church at an early age. She enjoyed sing in the Gospel Choir.
Because of her medical condition, Clara was unable to go far in school. She always hoped to become a
nurse and often used her homemade remedies on her children as well as herself.
Clara loved music, dancing, photography, and scratching lottery bingo cards. The Williams Brothers, Fats
Domino, and BB King were only a few of her favorite singers. She collected many albums in her younger
days. Clara loved taking pictures of her family and friends. She filled several photo albums with pictures
of her siblings and their children.
In 1966, Clara married John Johnson and they raised 7 children.
Proceeding her in death were her parents, her husband, 4 brothers Fred, AC, Oscar, Thomas Jr. Burnes, 2
sisters Eula Mae Aldridge, and Ethel Mae Roberts.
Clara leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memory her brother Richard Burnes and sister in love
Elvira Burnes; children Clara Denise (Curtis) Robinson, Harvey Storms, Michelle, John Adrain, Twanatta,
Lee and Markel (Jenipher) Johnson; grandchildren Kristin (Dave) Tomlin, Keisha (Kwame) Musonda,
Brandon (Kiara), Eric, Jaiden, Kiah, Markiss, Markell Johnson, and Tameka Jimmerson; great-grandchildren
Bria and Tavonte. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, the many caregivers
over the years.
The family wishes to thank Clara's friend and caregiver, Sandy Serrano, who took wonderful care of her
all these years. We will never forget the love you showered upon our mama, and you are a family
member for life. Special thanks to the staff at TMC's Peppi's House for your kindness and the wonderful
care you provided to our mama during her final days.
