October 29, 1949 – May 4, 2020
Bruce was born in Evansville, Indiana to Robert and Alma Fields. After graduating from Carmi Township High School in Carmi, Illinois in 1967, he attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. In 1969 Bruce enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in England, he met and married his wife of 46 years, Pamela, who was a student nurse in Suffolk, England. Shortly after, Bruce returned to complete his degree in Electrical Engineering at the U of I.
Bruce had a long and successful career in business development starting in 1976 in S. California with General Dynamics which then brought Bruce, Pam, and their daughter Kelly to Tucson AZ, in 1993. General Dynamics was acquired by Hughes then subsequently Raytheon until he retired in 2014. His co-workers remember him as a kind, helpful, positive, respected, optimistic teammate and mentor. Through time they became lifelong friends who continued to visit & support him throughout his illness.
Bruce enjoyed spending time on the beach, golfing, taking cruises with his wife and friends, and attending University of Arizona basketball games. After retiring, his passion was traveling with Pam across the US in their RV.
One of Bruce’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his daughter Kelly and his twin grandchildren, Jace and Riley. He was able to see Jace and Riley advance into high school, watch them excel in their sporting activities and grow into young adults. He was very proud of Kelly for following in her mother’s footsteps and becoming a Registered Nurse.
In 2016, Bruce was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He was a fighter who had hoped to see his grandchildren graduate from high school. His positive attitude, strength, and faith saw him through a double lung transplant in 2017.
Unfortunately, on May 4th, after a long struggle, he passed away peacefully with Pam and Kelly at his side. He will be dearly missed by all. Bruce has impacted many people throughout his lifetime. His love, faith, strength and integrity were bright enough to light a dark room. His quick wit, smile, laugh and sense of humor will never be dimmed nor forgotten.
Bruce is survived by his wife Pam, their daughter Kelly Fields, grandchildren Riley and Jace Fields of Tucson, sisters Sue Beck (Denny) of Eureka, MO, and Lisa Jacob (Greg) of St. Louis, MO and many cherished nephews and nieces. His love and dedication to his family are his legacy.
