Joe (as I knew him) and I were drafted together January 6, 1967 in Dearborn, Michigan, basic at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and AIT at Fort Polk, LA. This photo (I'm in the middle) was taken sometime in July 1967 on the deck of the USNS Geiger on our way to Vietnam. We both served in D/2/16, 1st Inf Div until Joe transferred to the battalion recon platoon with whom he was critically wounded around February 1968 during the Tet offensive. He attended one of Delta Company's Reunions in 2009. My wife was a classmate of Daryl (as she knew him) at Dearborn High. Rest in Peace brother.
