Delia Vega Figueroa
November 19, 1951 – October 5, 2026
Delia Vega Figueroa, 74, of Vail, Arizona, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2026, at 8:15 p.m. While her family mourns the loss of a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, tia and friend, we find comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and the knowledge that her faith has now become sight.
Delia was born on November 19, 1951, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, to Tomas and Dolores Vega. One of 17 children, she grew up surrounded by the bonds and traditions of a large Mexican family. Those roots helped shape the woman she would become—a woman who treasured family, valued hard work, spoke honestly, and believed deeply in caring for the people God placed in her life.
On April 17, 1968, at just 17 years old, Delia immigrated to the United States with her family, beginning a new chapter filled with hope and opportunity. She carried her Mexican heritage with her throughout her life, preserving the traditions, values, and love of home that would later be passed down to her children and grandchildren. On September 24, 1996, she proudly became a United States citizen.
While working at Haskell Linen Supply, Delia met Robert Figueroa Jr., the man who would become her husband and lifelong companion. Their love blossomed quickly, and just six months later, on September 28, 1974, they were married at Tucson Tabernacle.
Together, they built a life centered on faith, commitment, and family. As the wife of a pastor, Delia faithfully stood beside her husband in his calling and attended church whenever the doors were open. Her faith in Jesus Christ was not simply something she professed; it was an essential part of who she was. She remained devoted to the Lord and to the life of service she shared with her husband.
Delia was the backbone of her family—the one who helped keep everyone together, the one whose presence could be counted on, and the one who never hesitated to speak her mind. She believed in telling the truth, even when it was not what someone wanted to hear. If you needed correction, she would give it. If you needed advice, she would share it. And if she loved you, you could be certain she cared enough to let you know when you needed to get back on the right track!
Behind her straightforward words was a heart filled with concern and love. And if you were not feeling well, you could count on Delia to worry about you. She always seemed to have a home remedy ready, along with advice on what you should do to feel better as quickly as possible. Her concern for everyone's health was simply another expression of her love. She wanted her family healthy, safe, and well cared for. That was Delia: always watching over her loved ones, always ready to help, and always wanting everyone to be well.
Her love was practical, protective, and unmistakable. She did not need grand gestures to show how much she cared. Often, it was found in her advice, her concern, her prayers, and the everyday ways she made sure her family was taken care of.
Delia is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert Figueroa Jr. She was the proud mother of four children: Ruth, Elizabeth (Jude), Jessica (Dan), and Robert III (Kama). Her greatest earthly treasures included her 17 grandchildren: Daniel (Sydnee), Charity, Camila, Thomas, Reuben, Jeremiah, Emanuel, Wesley, Theodore, Olivia, Abigail, Adam, Emily, Eloise, Andrew, Gabriel, and Emma.
Each generation carries a part of Delia with them—in the lessons she taught, the traditions she preserved, the faith she demonstrated, and the love she gave so freely. Her influence will continue long after this day, living in the hearts of her children and grandchildren and in the families they will build.
Delia was preceded in death by her beloved firstborn daughter, Ruth Considine, who passed away on September 18, 2021. The loss of a child leaves a sorrow that words can never fully express. Today, her family finds comfort in the Christian hope of reunion, trusting in God's promise of eternal life and imagining the joy of a mother embracing her beloved daughter once again in the presence of the Lord.
She is also survived by her sisters, Josie Castaneda, Mabel Sproul (Johann), and Grace Jimenez (Ricardo); her brothers, Francisco Vega, Marcos Vega (Patricia), and Henry Vega; along with numerous cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family throughout Arizona, California, and Mexico.
Among Delia's simple but treasured joys were caring for her indoor and outdoor plants and making homemade tortillas for her grandchildren. She nurtured her plants with patience and lovingly prepared food for those she held dear. Her tortillas were more than a family favorite; they were a taste of home, a connection to her Mexican heritage, and a loving tradition that brought our family together. These everyday acts of care reflected the woman she was: someone who expressed love through the things she did for others.
Though our hearts grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing that her faith has become sight and that she is resting in the eternal presence of Jesus. The hands that cared for her family, tended her plants, and lovingly made tortillas have now found their rest. But the seeds of love, faith, strength, and family that she planted will continue to grow for generations.
Above all, Delia's life was anchored in her faith in Jesus Christ. She faithfully walked alongside her pastor husband, remained devoted to her church, and lived with the assurance of God's presence. Her life reminds those she leaves behind that faith is more than words—it is a daily commitment, a source of strength, and a hope that carries us even through the deepest sorrow.
Today, we grieve because we loved her deeply. But we also give thanks to God for the years we were blessed to share with her and for the memories that will forever connect us to her.
Delia, you were the heart of your family, a faithful servant of the Lord, and a wife, mother and nana whose love left an everlasting mark. You will be missed more than words can express, but the legacy you leave behind is one that death cannot take away.
Until we meet again in the presence of our Lord, may you rest in His everlasting arms, reunited with your beloved Ruth and surrounded by the eternal peace of Jesus Christ.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever our family’s heart.
Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 2pm.
