Doris Ann Dixon, 80, passed away on August 27th, 2022 after an aneurysm in her brain ruptured, causing fatal bleeding. She had a long and full life that took her from Chicago, IL where she was born, to Spain, where she lived briefly while her husband was stationed there. Doris met her husband, Captain James I Dixon Jr (U.S. Army), while attending Roosevelt University, from which she earned her B.S. in History.
Doris moved to Tucson over 50 years ago to be closer to relatives and lived here until her death last month. A voracious reader and armchair historian, Doris could often be found with a book in her hand. She had a keen intelligence and sharp wit that delighted friends and family alike. Doris loved both cats and dogs, but cats most of all, and left behind a virtual arboretum of healthy green plants. She loved jazz, and rocked out to Queen in her kitchen. Most importantly, she loved her family, her friends, and her independent lifestyle.
Doris is survived by her son James, and daughters Sarah, Kelly (in-law), and Patricia (stepdaughter), her cat Lulu, and her three grand-dogs. All of whom she was immensely proud.
At East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712. A visitation for Doris will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A committal will occur Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
