

Dorothea Ann Popovich (Dorrie)was born 2/22/1946 in Brooklyn, New York to Dr. Theodore and Roselyn Popovich. She passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on 10/11/2015 at Peppi’s House in Tucson, Arizona. She lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kentucky for a while then settled in Tucson where she graduated from Catalina High School and The University of Arizona.
After working in Cleveland, Ohio briefly she settled in Los Angeles, California where she lived for many years working as a writer/producer since 1972. Her agency experience included Ogilvy & Mather, Parker Advertising, J. Walter Thompson, Eisaman, Johns & Law, Foote Cone & Belding, Dick Orkin’s Radio Ranch and Klein/Richardson (creative director). In 1990 she formed the full-service radio production company Funny Radio.
Her account experience includes print, television and radio for Nissan Motors, Books on Tape, Maxwell House, Baskin Robbins, Redken, Western Airlines, Applause, Princess Cruises, Universal Studios, Neutrogena, Gerard’s Salad Dressings, The Sports Connection, Avis, NEC Cellular, Montessori Schools, Warner Bros., Falcon Cable, Disney, NBC and numerous financial institutions.
Credits also include concepting, writing and co-producing TV segments for “Sesame Street”; co-writing a golf video (“Nice Shot”); writing and casting a cable television home shopping program and concepting, writins and producing audio sales tapes for companies like Signature Eyewear, Meldac’s Computer Games and Applause as well as projects for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
In Los Angeles she also met and married the love of her life, Thomas Groener. They were happily married until cancer took him in 2008. They lived in a beautiful historic house and enjoyed traveling and entertaining. As she was a gourmet cook their guests were always in for a treat! They loved cats and dogs and had many rescue pets over the years.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Lisa), brother in law, Peter, nieces Katarina (husband, Troy) and Alexandra as well as great niece, Raelyn. She loved vicariously living the lives of her nieces and sharing the joy of their accomplishments. She always sent the best gifts!
The family wishes to give special thanks to her wonderful friends and neighbors and especially to Dr. Lincoln and his fabulous staff at Peppi’s House. They are truly all about care.
