

Dorris Iva Showman was born April 17, 1920 to parents Irene Harris Showman and Donald Caldwell Showman. She grew up in various different locations including Casper, Wyoming an Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1937. She attended Cottey College, in Nevada, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Lewis Vincent Brown on March 29, 1944 in Juarez, Mexico. She spent much of her life in Denver, Colorado. Dorris became an extensive world traveler, visiting over 150 countries. Religious beliefs were very important to Dorris and she was very active in her church (Grant Avenue United Methodist Church) and other organizations, including PEO, William Henry Jackson Color Camera Club, Self Help For Hard Hearing People, Ghost Town Club Of Colorado, NELL’S service club, Egyptian Study Society, Women’s Library Association, and Travelers’ Century Club. Dorris was extremely generous, donating funds to numerous organizations. Dorris was a true “catwoman”, loving anything to do with cats. She was avid camera bug. She enjoyed the Denver symphony for many years. She had a keen sense of humor and could always make you smile. She enjoyed the Maxine cartoons. Dorris was very accepting of different lifestyles and customs and enjoyed experiencing other cultures. She was a very independent woman, who was not afraid to say exactly what she thought and definitely was one of a kind.
Dorris passed away Tuesday morning July 23, 2013, at a care home in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 93. Her family includes her daughter Linda (Kenneth) McAfee of Crawford, Colorado, and her son Lee (Becky) Brown of Tucson, Arizona, her stepson Lewis Atkinson Brown (Sr.), of Denver, Colorado, one grandchild, Lewis McAfee of Crawford, Colorado, 6 step grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) Kidwell, Kimberly Abeyta (Kevin) of Oakborro, North Carolina, Lewis Atkinson Brown Jr., Donna Lee Brown (deceased 1953), Deborah Lee (James A.) Rowledge of Denver, Colorado, Lynn Ann Brown, and 12+ step great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and her husband in 1975, Dorris was preceded in death by two brothers; Donald Showman (Sr.), and Homer Showman, her stepson , Lewis Atkinson Brown (Sr.), and step grand children Lewis Atkinson Brown Jr. and Donna Lee Brown.
