Eddie came to Tucson in 1945 at the beckoning of a New Mexico mining
foreman who was gathering a crew for the new Banner Mining Company.
Eddie was hard working and dependable. Traits the foreman valued and to
which Eddie adhered to throughout his work life. At Banner Mine, he
worked in the Assayers Office calculating metal contents. Later, he would
work at Pima Mine as a mill operating specialist. His excellent handyman
skills later led to a school head custodian job in San Manuel until his
retirement.
Together with his beloved wife, Veva, of 72 years, Eddie raised four
children. After retirement, he dedicated himself to helping raise grandson,
Victor. He instilled in his children the virtues of hard work, humbleness,
responsibility for one's actions and living within your means. Even during
hard times, he shared not only with his family, but with neighbors in need.
Narry a beggar crossed his path that he did not generously gift.
The family home of 65 years was meticulously maintained by him. There
wasn't anything that he could not fix. He particularly enjoyed creating a
backyard retreat, a place for family and friends and his eldest daughter's
chosen wedding local. He loved sitting in his garden contemplating life,
watching and feeding birds.
Music was a favorite pastime, particularly, traditional Mexican ballets and
American country. In earlier years, Eddie entertained at family gatherings
playing his guitar and singing. His unique melodious voice caught
everyone's admiration. Until recently, he spent many hours learning and
playing the accordion.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Veva, and is survived by son, Eddie
Placencio (Barbara); daughters, Delia Bryant (James); Belen Placencio
Roemer (Hannes); Luci Placencio, a sister, Esperanza Quevedo (Tony); 9
grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
