Eugenia was born October 29th, 1929, in Iuka, Mississippi. The youngest child in her family, she grew up in the shadow of the Great Depression. She then lived through World War II as a teen, watching her older siblings ship off to war.
Through it all, Eugenia built her personal values of family, love, and hard work. In 1955 Eugenia met, and fell in love with, a "Yankee" who was in the Air Force. After a short courtship, Eugenia and Fredrick Van Pelt were married in Mississippi. What followed was an adventure together. Traveling the USA with the Air Force, they became parents of three wonderful children. Susan was born in Tennessee in 1956, Michael in Georgia in 1957, then Linda in Hawaii in 1958.
Eugenia, or Jeanie/Jean as she was more commonly known, and Fred were always partners in raising their family. When Fred was stationed away from home, sometimes overseas, Jean held down the home front and made sure that their children never wanted for the love of their parents.
Jean was Wife, Mom, then Grandma and eventually Great Grandma to her family. It did not matter if you were a child of hers by birth, marriage, or simply friendship, before long you were another one of her kids. Mom had enough love inside of her for anyone that wanted or needed it.
On June 25th, 2023, with family by her side, Eugenia went home to the Lord. She leaves behind her husband Fred, daughter Linda, grandchildren Joseph, Christopher, Soufiane and Sara; And Great-Grandchildren Benjamin, Zakaria, and Noah. And many others who loved her as their own.
We love you, Mom. We'll miss you til we see you again.
