

Garner William "Bill" Mathis II passed away on April 23, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 74. Born on December 11, 1950, in Brigham City, Utah, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to his country and devotion to his family.
Bill's unwavering patriotism was evident in his distinguished military service. He began his career in the United States Navy and later reenlisted in the United States Army. As a military police officer, he focused his efforts on drug enforcement, serving with honor and commitment across both branches. His contributions reflected a deep sense of duty and pride in protecting others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gaylia, and their eight children: Chris Mathis; Jason (Danielle) Mathis; Jacob Mathis; Jennifer Escobar; Karl Mathis; Penelope (Keith) Epler; Tammy Hoth; and Jeremy Otero. Bill also leaves behind 14 grandchildren who brought him great joy, as well as several nieces and nephews who were part of his extended circle of love.
Bill's family roots ran deep. He is remembered fondly by his siblings: Glory Wilma Farley, Charlotte Ann Reed, Karen Kay (Eugene) Padilla, and Merrym Dawn Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garner William Mathis I and Charlotte Hodges Adams; two siblings, Robert Lee Mathis and Peggy Sue Hibbitts; and a cherished grandson, Hayden Michael Hoth.
Throughout his life, Bill exemplified strength and resilience. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-his family, fellow service members, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
