Gerald Edward “Gerry” Veale, born on January 21st, 1954 to Francis P. and Mary Rita Veale passed away suddenly, yet peacefully at home on March 19, 2018. Gerry was a wonderful husband and father who's magnetic personality and general goodness allowed him to never meet a stranger. He was a 1975 graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a degree in Forestry, which aligned with his lifelong love of the outdoors. His variety of interests led to a plethora of hobbies: reading, jewelry making, quilling, and woodworking to name a few. There was nothing he couldn't do. An avid storyteller, he never missed a chance to make others laugh. A moment Owen will never forget; Gerry not being an instruction manual kind of guy was replacing a serpentine belt on a large Cadillac engine. Owen asked “Hey, I don't think this looks right, should we check a book?” Gerry responded, “Nope, looks great, it's gonna work.” Gerry then started the car and the belt squealed, ripped the water pump and a pulley completely out of the car, and snapped. Gerry while smiling, immediately laughed a little and said, “Nice! This is where the fun part starts. Now we get to enjoy rebuilding all of this stuff that we just broke!” Gerry would willingly drop everything to be available for his family anywhere at any time. Our hearts are broken at his loss. We miss him more than words can say, but the void that is left by his passing is filled by the amazing life he lived that we were fortunate enough to be part of. Gerry is survived by his wife Geraldine “Dee” Veale, the love of his life for 38 years, his treasured children; son Owen Veale, daughter Erin (Max) Held and precious grandson Raymond Held III. Sisters; Susan Norton, Frances (George) Cornwell. Brothers; Christopher (Dianne) Veale, Daniel (Anne) Veale, and Patrick (Karen) Veale. Gerry also leaves his dear Aunt and Uncle, Kay and Pat Veale, many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Services will be privately held. Memorial donations may be made in Gerry's name to the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development. Or the American Cancer Society.
