Glenn O. Gilmore peacefully passed on April 19th, 2026 at the age of 86 surrounded by his family at home in Tucson, AZ. He was born in Tucson at home on October 6th, 1939. Was a graduate of Amphitheater High School and had a very long successful career at the phone company for 43 years. He loved his family and friends, tennis, pickleball, hunting, shooting sports, and he was a lifelong collector of firearms. He had a passion for Winchester Model 70’s and Browning shotguns. He loved Christmas and spending time with family having big meals and reminiscing about favorite memories. He is survived by his son Jeff (Dana) and his two grandchildren, Evan Gilmore and Jester Gilmore. He is predeceased by his brother George, sister Donna (Miller), and parents, Clyde and Ruth Gilmore.
At the age of 19, he started at Mountain Bell in 1958, and after two company name changes retired from Quest in 2001. After serving in all areas of the phone companies, his last 16 years were spent as a Tier 2 support technician for 911 services in Southern Arizona. There he bid on jobs, wrote orders, assisted with installations, and restored 911 services from Ajo to Clifton-Morenci, as well as the 9 access points in Tucson. When he started with 911 in 1985, the operators were using a push button phone system to answer calls. By the time he left in 2001, all the operators were using personal computers to handle calls.
Having started with a BB gun at 5 years old, and shagging birds for his dad, shotguns were next and trap shooting was a hobby he took up in the 1970s in the spring leagues, which he shot on the State Farm Team until a few years ago. Hunting was always been a part of his fun things to do including 2 trips to Africa and any shotgun games including trap, skeet, and sporting clays. His first round of trap was at the clubs old location on 22nd and Pantano in 1965.
He was an avid tennis player in his younger days and more recently enjoyed pickleball with many great players and friends in Tucson. He would have wanted to keep playing and spending time with all the great people he knew over the years. He will be deeply missed.
