Glenn Robert Gollenberg, 69, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away and met his Savior on May 22, 2025 after a valiant battle with cancer. Glenn was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to George and Rosemarie Gollenberg on November 13, 1955. He grew up in nearby Newtown and enjoyed his youth participating in various sports, following the Yankees and the Giants, camping with family, becoming an Eagle Scout and dating his future wife, Donna.
Glenn received his Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from Georgia Tech in 1977. Just one month later, he and Donna married and settled in Atlanta while Glenn earned his Master of Architecture degree. They moved to Memphis, Tennessee where their son, Brian, was born in 1980 and then to Phoenix, Arizona where their daughter, Lisa, was born in 1987. Wanting to be closer to both of their families in Connecticut, they relocated back to Glenn’s home state in 1988.
Glenn loved his work and had a long career that included healthcare and private and public education. He served as vice president and president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He became a partner at the SLAM Collaborative and always considered the interests of the firm and its employees before his own. Glenn did find some time for travel, and favorite destinations included Quebec, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
Glenn and Donna retired to Tucson in December of 2021 and Glenn quickly became enamored with hiking in the desert and mountains. Despite high summer temperatures, he rarely missed regular walks as well as challenging treks once or twice a week. He and Lisa proudly completed a rim to rim hike in the Grand Canyon in May of 2024. Glenn’s other passion was serving, and he gave his heart, hands and mind to volunteering at Pantano Christian Church and helping others in need however he could.
Glenn was known for his integrity and ethics, selfless mentorship and promotion of others, hard work in everything he did, ready smile, humor and wit, and his devotion to those he loved.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna (Kriger) Gollenberg, his son Brian and his wife, Audra; his daughter, Lisa Gollenberg Hood, and her husband, Cameron; his amazing granddaughter, Grace Gollenberg; brother Gary Gollenberg, and sister Gale Gollenberg.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Glenn on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Student Union building at Pantano Christian Church, 1755 S Houghton Rd, Tucson, AZ. All are welcome.
