With great sadness, I note the passing of Dr Vermulapalli.  He was a brilliant scientist and an inspiring instructor.

I was a student of Dr Vemulapalli at the University of Arizona some 30 years ago.  I still remember his unique teaching style, and scholarly wit.  I think I still have his class notes somewhere in my old filing cabinet. It saddens me to hear of his passing.

Carolyn, I was shocked to hear the news  and couldn’t help other than praying God to give you the courage and strength needed . It was such  a delight to hear about vemulapalli’s childhood, how he named himself as ‘Gopala Krishna’ and the extraordinary intelligence he had shown as a student and throughout  his career. We are fortunate to share your food, your travel delights  and the literary work. He is always with us in spirit as an inspiration of what we can be.

I went to the Desert Museum when I was 10 years old.  Krishna told me all about the different animals and plants.
I also went to Carolyn and Krishna's house for dinner.  He made tortilla soup and chicken with feta cheese.  He always enjoyed making his really good food for people.

I met Krishna when Carolyn was in Fairfax caring for her ailing parents in 2004. After her parents passed away that June, Carolyn and Krishna visited my parents in PA. My mom, very sick with cancer, so enjoyed their visit. (Carolyn's mother and my mother were cousins). Krishna seemed to be right at home with my elderly parents, who had lived their entire lives in farm country in PA. It seemed to me that Krishna could find common ground to share conversation with anyone he met. He was a delightful person.

My memory of Krishna was his great food and conversation - and the gift he gave my daughter - Nathan.

Krishna was a dear friend and a true inspiration.  His enthusiasm for life and learning will continue to motivate me!

What a shock and loss to us!  I will miss seeing Krishna's smile whenever I met him on the UA mall going for coffee.  A truely gentle man.

We miss Dr. Vemulapalli.  We are proud he was a TATA member.

I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with Dr. Gopala Krishna about various Telugu books, east Godavari and Peda Puram.  I will remember him forever

Krishna's intellegence, perspective and generosity will be sorely missed.

Krishna has been a constant source of critical discussions on topics of common academic interest, and one of the most plesant companies in the university environment--a breath of fresh air.  He served in the academic committees of my students and provided critical and insightful advice.  I will miss him greatly.

New Year's Eve 2010 (at the Spark's house) Krishna and I had a delightful conversation about academic publishing.  He complained about "lazy retired professors' who continued to research their same topics that got them tenure.  "Now you are retired," he said.  "What a beautiful opportunity to learn new things!"  This small conversation perfectly summed up his attitude towards learning and life.  I will miss his stories and gentle humor.

In 2008, I helped J.C. Martin, book critic for The Arizona Daily Star, write a mini-review of SANKAR AND THE CHEMISTRY CRIME COMMITTEE.  J.
c. has been reviewing books for many years.  She is not easy to impress.  She was impressed by the SANKAR book!
She said she hoped he would publish more books.  I understand there are at least two manuscripts extant.  I sincerely hope the family will make an effort to hve them published.

I have always known him but never could dare to talk or exchange a conversation with him because I was afraid I would say something incorrect!
Great man and great inspiration for everyone who gets to know him.As someone said he always makes you interested in him if you get to know him.

We are going to miss him at local Telegu gatherings.  Ranga and i always enjoyed talking to him.  just recently, at Sankriti gathering, he was reciting Telugu poems along with the kids during their skit.  Please put his unpublished work on-line.  I would love to read it.

Sorry to know the sad news.  Our family was shocked to hear the news.  Unfortunately my family is not here to share the feelings.  I pray god to give all kind of strength to overcome the grief you and your family have encountered.  May his soul rest in peace.

Krishna was the heart of the family, filling the home with warmth, joy, laughter and love.  I have been married to Mohan for 11 years but I have known Krishna for half my lifetime.  It is a huge loss.

I was a student of Krishna's.
I was a student of Chander's.
Krishna taught me rigor and discipline that I use every day in my lab.
Chander has made me a competent pilot through the infectious curiosity he gives his students; undoubtedly the legacy of his father.
How blessed I have been by Krishna and his family.

I fondly remember playing Dungeons and Dragons at your house in high school.  It was such a fun and welcoming home.

I will always remember the gentle, strong man with a beard who 1) led all hikes, 2) spoke with wisdom and understanding for all, even when not agreeing in principle and 3) cooked so well that my wife always pointed to him as a role model for me.
With fond memories,

Carolyn would email me every so often with a link to a letter or paper that Krishna had written to the newspaper.  His writing allowed an older "uneducated" woman to learn about the history of Pakistan and India "troubles" and how to get unique passwords.  Always a teacher, he will be missed by many.

I will always remember his gentle, warm smile, his friendly greeting each time we met.  He was a gentleman who always thought to ask how things were going.  He was a grand and great neighbor who extended love for all.  I am honored to have met him and will cherish the fond, beautiful memories.

Mostly I remember many great camping trips and Krishna's wonderful smile.

Krishna Vemulapalli introduced me to a different way of living.  As my Scoutmaster, he taught me to enjoy and respect the outdoors.  More importantly, he opened my eyes to living a life with learning and thoughtful discourse as central features.  I had never seen someone with a whole room full of books or met someone who didn't know who was playing in the superbowl.  Krishna's example helped me understand a broader wiew of how to live that has profoundly influenced my life.  His memory and influence are cherished.

Dear Carolyn and family:

It has been a privilege and pleasure for me to come to know Krish through meeting him at philosophy of chemistry meetings, and through correspondence.  
His genuine human warmth, great good humor, and deep intellect brought both light and joy to any conversation in which he participated – and there were many.

Carolyn an family - I had the great honor of having Dr. Vemulapalli as a teacher at the UofA.  He not only taught me about P.Chem but about philosophy and a little of life. How to look at life a certain way.  There are comments and sayings that I still remember that came from his lips meant to make us think or excite us or sometimes just comfort a student who thought they weren't going to make it.  I believe because of Dr.Vemulupalli I did make it and a lot of others did too.  I keep his P.Chem book on my shelf at work and reference it often.  I will miss him a great deal.

Carolyn, Mohan, Chandra and Nathan,  I am very deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague, G. Krishna Vemulapalli.  He was always ready and eager to help students and co-workers.  His teaching accomplishments are a great example to all of us.  I believe that his P Chem text is one fo the best available.  We shall all miss him a great deal.

Dr. Vemulapalli would come to lecture with Pyrex and such that he "borrowed" from his home kitchen for experiments,
he'd remark that his wife would get annoyed at him for it, and he laugh and laugh....we all loved his class!

I graduated from the U of A in the late 1980's and Dr. V was hands down my favorite prof. My condolences to the family.
