on a sunny Tucson day at the long term care facility where she had resided for the
past year. Father Gabriel and Joseph were by her side offering comfort and support.
Harriet was a wonderful and caring wife and mother to their 4 poodles who were
the light of their lives for many, many years. Harriet was born in Baltimore, MDS
but grew up in Glen Arm, MD with her parents and sisters. As a girl, Harriet worked on
their neighbor’s Dairy Farm and was given dairy calves, to have and raise, as her pay.
She was active in 4-H and won many awards for her calves, as well as for cooking and sewing.
Harriet was a phenomenal seamstress, and while serving in the Peace Corps in Brazil,
she taught the young girls and women there how to sew. In later years, Harriet won many
awards here in Tucson for her extraordinary quilts and sewing projects. She was a generous
and giving person, always willing to help others. She volunteered in the community and was
very active at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church until she became too ill with MS.
Harriet will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband,
Joseph G. Yurgec, and sisters, Eileen E. Crocker and Josephine C. James. Her sisters
reside back East and are too frail to make the trip to Tucson for Harriet’s service, but
will be with her in Spirit.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.eastlawnpalmsmortuary.com for the Yurgec family.
