

Hilda Irene Krompasky passed away on May 20, 2026 at The Gardens at San Carlos, an assisted living facility in Tucson. She was born in Germany in on November 15, 1944 during World War II. At age 7, Hilda immigrated with her family to Tucson and began second grade without speaking English. In 1957 Hilda became a United States citizen along with her father and five sisters.
Hilda attended Tucson High School and graduated with academic honors in 1963. At the University of Arizona she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Secondary Education. Immediately after college, Hilda was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis. However, that did not prevent her from pursuing a 30 year teaching career at her alma mater Tucson High School.
Hilda had several special interests outside of education. She loved music, enjoyed drawing, took photographs at every opportunity, lunched with friends, baked cookies, and traveled with her friends and fellow educators. She lived in her home for over 40 years and served as an officer of the neighborhood association during most of that time.
Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Elza Krompasky. Her surviving relatives include her sisters: Brigitte, Eva, Monica, Edith and Renate, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Gardens at San Carlos for caring for Hilda the past sixteen months and Copper State Hospice for providing comfort care in the last month of her life.
