Martin, Irma Casanova, of Tucson, AZ, passed away on February 10, 2014. She was born in 1925 to Aloysius and Amelia Raufeisen Casanova in Loudonville, OH. She was a 1943 graduate of Sandusky High School, OH, attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing, Bowling Green State University, graduated from Lake Erie College and did her masters work at Kent State University.
While in Sandusky, she taught exceptional children and later was Executive Secretary for the Council for Exceptional Children as well as County supervisor for their classes. She was a past president of the Sandusky Altrusa Club, a member of the Sandusky Civic Club, served on the Board for the Firelands Camp Fire Girls and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Her career spanned 30 years working with learning disabled and emotionally disturbed children. She belonged to several professional education organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Martin; her parents; three brothers, A.J., Jr. (Bud), Robert, and Donald Casanova; three sisters, Elarose Schettine, Annamae Cullin and Martha Jane Jennings. She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Willy) Pagan of Cleveland, OH; Theodore (Marty and Suzanne) Martin and Robin Brigode (John Dierssen) of Tucson, AZ; sister, Eunice (Robert) Ries of Sandusky, OH; and brother, Charles Casanova of FL; grandchildren, Sheri Colson, Todd (Becky) Sidoti, Esq., Robert (Sheri) Sidoti, Esq., Lisa (Greg) Kist, Alex (Laura) Zurfas, Shannan Brigode and Megan (George) Palenzuela; great grandchildren, Tyson, Tre, Jasmyn, Anthony, Danielle, Chili, Jet, Jada, Chance, Michael, Kaitlen, Saralyn, Emma and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.
Our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was cherished and loved. We will celebrate her every day.
