James (Jamie) Andrew Barrios was a proud native Tucsonan, born on June 13, 1971. Jamie passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on April 8, 2026. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, Rincon High School (Class of 1989), and the University of Arizona (Class of 2000). At the U of A, Jamie studied Renewable Natural Resources with a focus on Fishery/Hatchery Sciences.
Jamie spent the past 25 years working for Trader Joe's. He loved working hard with the rest of the crew at TJ’s and was affectionately referred to as “Rebar” for his tenacity.
Jamie and his wife, Naomi, spent 32 loving years together, including 24 years of marriage, and have two sons, Saul and Isaac. Jamie is also survived by his brother, Richard, and his two sisters, Elizabeth and Marisa.
Jamie enjoyed hiking, camping, woodworking, tending his yard, and watching and reading sci-fi and fantasy fiction—he was even working on a fantasy novel of his own. Jamie enjoyed "Magic: The Gathering", and he and his sons hosted games with friends and co-workers. Jamie also loved projects and most recently designed, welded, and fabricated a metal trellis with his sons.
Jamie was a devoted, hardworking family man with a deep sense of personal honor; his word was his word. He was a gentle, sensitive soul with a quick wit and an inquisitive mind. Jamie always learned from and received solace in nature. We feel his presence on the trail, in the green and wild spaces, in birdsong, and in rainbows.
Thank you to the emergency room staff. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support from our families, friends, and co-workers; we truly feel blessed. He is loved dearly and will continue to be missed every day.
A suggested way to honor Jamie is by making a donation to The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
