Today, I was trying to reach out to James with some good news to discover this. I'm crushed.  James, as I liked to call him, was a good friend and work colleague. He had a brilliant mind, was funny, and kind. We liked to talk at length about philosophy, music, and computing.  He played guitar with my husband on Christmas 2013 in our garage at a team Christmas Party - our version of a 'garage band.'  This photo is of him and his family at our team summer BBQ, the previous July.  We were literally cooking in the summer heat but he came, played guitar and sang with all of us.  My heart goes out to Molly, Perla, and his family. My love is with you James.

On my first day of school for eighth grade, I was the new kid who just moved from Nebraska.  Jim Brewer was a one of the first people to welcome me to my new school, sporting his blonde "swimmers hair".  For the next 36 years Jim was one of my closest and dearest friends.  My parents and older brother are the only other people on Earth I have known longer. Jim and I had some amazing times together in those 36 years.  He was my college roommate our freshman year at The University of Arizona, and two weeks ago when The Cats were playing hoops, Jim sent me a text, "Bear Down!". There isn't enough space to express the sadness I am feeling for Jim's passing. My heart breaks for Perla, Molly, and Jim's family.  Jim loved music, art, philosophy, good conversation, dogs, libation, sensation, the outdoors, travel, experiencing new things, meeting new people, and many other things that would take too long to list.  I will miss him deeply.  I think all of us who fill this guest book could tell some great stories of the good times we had with Jim, and for me, no bad times.  I'm thankful I was able to see Jim last Christmas Eve, we parted as we always did, with the Phi Beta handshake (long story) and a hug.  I'm glad I was able to talk to him on the phone a couple days before he passed; he even sent well wishes via text for St. Patrick's Day. I'm sad I will never hang out with Jim again.  I will have a scar on my heart until next we meet, Jim Brewer, I loved you and will miss you forever.

Jim was a great friend who always supported me in the +30 years I knew him.  He had a great sense of humor and a hardy laugh that was infectious. Jim was a talented musician and an avid music fan with incredible taste.  I will miss him greatly and think about him always.

I am sorry for your loss. For the time I knew James he was positive and helpful whenever I needed to talk with him. He will be missed.
