OBITUARY

James Martin McCormick

November 14, 1938November 18, 2020

On Wednesday, November 18th, 2020, James Martin McCormick, loving husband and father of four children passed away at age 82 after a brave fight with Mesothelioma.

Jim was born on November 14th, 1938 in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Paul and Leora McCormick. After the family moved to Phoenix, he attended Sunnyslope High School and was a trumpet player in the marching band and lettered in choir. He continued on to the Middleton Institute of Electronics before marrying the love of his life, Nancy (Llanes) McCormick on November 15, 1958. They raised four children, James Jr, Debra, Sherri, and John.

First and foremost, Jim had a passion for the Lord that was evident in all aspects of his life. He loved his wife of 52 years and the wonderful family they had together. He had a love of the western lifestyle and Jim lived by the “Code of the West”. He was a collector of John Wayne and Gene Autry memorabilia, and loved going to baseball games with his grandchildren. He had a passion for music, and could be found most nights playing the guitar and singing for his children and grandchildren. There were no strangers to Jim who considered everyone to be a friend. He often said a stranger was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. His passion for children was shown through the family daycare center he and Nancy owned for 10 years and later founded an after school program called the “6 Up Club”. Upon moving to Flagstaff, Jim worked in sales until retirement. After his retirement, he continued to be involved with children as a school crossing guard.

James is preceded in death by his father Paul, mother Leora, wife Nancy, and brother Paul. He is survived by his four children Jim (JoAnna) of Picture Rocks, Az., Debbie (Gib) of Ranchester, WY., Sherri (Dennis) of Tucson, AZ., John (Marlene) of Scottsdale, AZ., his brothers Robert and Gary, sisters Joan and Theresa, thirteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held for the family on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary 5801 E Grant Rd Tucson, AZ 85712 (520) 885-6741.

I've known Jim and Nancy since Jim and JoAnna were going together. Over the years we have had many family get togethers.
Jim loved nothing better than being together with his family and if it was at their house it included music ,either he was playing his guitar or some of the Grandkids playing music.
He loved President Trump . For his birthday last year he got a Trump Flag ,he wanted a picture of both of us with his flag.
He was a great husband, father and grand father. A great friend that I will miss at family get togethers .
See you in Heaven my friend.
