Jazena Hopkins McPherson was born in Stamps, Arkansas on March 12, 1932 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Aaron and Jewel Miller Hayes. She had a long and beautiful life devoted to her husband and raising her children and grandchildren. She also was care giver for her parents and siblings until their deaths.
Jazena accepted Christ as her Savior some years ago. She regularly attended church at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, under Eddie L. Jones, Protestant Chaplain, Ch, Capt, USAF until her health began to decline. On February 18, 2022 she was baptized at home by non-denominational Chaplain Laszlo Vegas.
Jazena obtained her primary education in Stamps Arkansas, LaFayette County. She relocated to Tucson, Arizona, graduating from Dunbar High School.
Jazena loved people. She loved to cook, decorate, and sing. Everyone enjoyed listening to her sing in soprano. Included in her hobbies were journaling and collecting (stamps, coins, dolls, and unique items).
On April 13, 1950 Jazena married L.C. Hopkins who preceded her in death November 17, 1996, born to Leroy and Tessie Hopkins of Crockett, Texas Route 1. To this union three sons and two daughters were born: Larry Norris - deceased - (Kathryn), Leonard Calvin (Sharon), and Ronald Everett (Cinda); Valeria Lanor (Calvin), and Sherry Delaine (Richard).
On March 6, 1999 Jazena married Samuel McPherson of Phoenix, Arizona. They enjoyed 23 years of holy matrimony.
To this union Jazena gained three step sons and one step daughter: Marc William McPherson (Krista – daughter), Marty Dale McPherson (Olga – wife, Christoph - son, Brenda – stepdaughter, Christina – stepdaughter, Jesus – stepson) and Sandra McPherson Gilbert (Darion – husband, Monique – daughter, Da-Rell – son, Da-Ron – son) and a host of grands, and great-grands.
Preceding her in death were two sisters Melba Hayes (died at age 2) and Iva Jocine, and four brothers, Hearon, Terrell, Montevel, and Prevoyce.
Jazena’s in-laws included Pecolia, Margaret, Carl Etta, Judy, Bob, Roosevelt and Berline.
Grandchildren are Torian, Madrid, Andre, (Marquis and Marcus (step), Alicia, Jason, Lisa, and Devon (Robert), Shermaine, Mario, Richie, Sheneque, and Tyshawn. She leaves a host of great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A visitation for Jazena will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706. A committal service will occur Monday, June 27, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706. A reception will occur Monday, June 27, 2022 from 11:45 AM to 3:00 PM, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706.
