

The family of Jean Ann Murphy is saddened to announce her passing on August 6, 2025, age 93, in Oro Valley, Arizona. She died peacefully in her daughter’s home with her daughters Patricia and Susan at her side. Jean was born November 2, 1931 in Manchester, Connecticut to Paul and Anna Dougan. In addition to her parents, Jean is predeceased by her husband William J. Murphy ( 1976 ), son William P. Murphy (2016), son - in - law Daniel Bertin ( 1992 ), sister Barbara Vignone ( 2020 ), brother Paul Dougan ( 2020 ), brother Robert Dougan (2024 ) and brother - in - law Rudolph Vignone ( 2015 ).
Jean is survived by 3 children , daughter Patricia ( Brian ) Rabbitt, daughter Susan Bertin, son James Murphy, her six beloved grandchildren, Shannon ( Steve ) Clutterbuck, Daniel ( Sara ) Rabbitt, Christopher ( Lauren ) Rabbitt, Maureen ( Amanda ) Green - Rabbitt, Jesse Bertin, and Lisa ( Marcelo ) Jorge. Jean is survived by seven great grandchildren, Mary Jane, Drew, and Noelle Clutterbuck, Sam and Lila Rabbitt, Zoe and Charlie Rabbitt.
Jean is survived by her brother Glenn ( Doreen ) Dougan, sister - in - law Jacqueline Dougan, sister - in - law Sheila Dougan, all of Connecticut. Jean is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean retired from New Jersey Bell Yellow Pages in 1991. She was involved with NAMI ( National Alliance on Mental Illness ), was a regular Red Cross blood donor, volunteered at the VA Medical Center in New Jersey. She also thoroughly enjoyed working outside creating beautiful gardens. From her earliest time as a child, Jean loved to read books. Jean enjoyed her day trips to New York City with friends, family and by herself.
Jean enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. Jean relocated to Arizona to help her daughter Susan to raise her two children, Jesse and Lisa, at an early age, due to the death of their father. In her last years, she enjoyed her Saturday night dinners with her son, Jim.
Showing love and kindness to all, Jean blessed everyone with acceptance, dignity, humor and strength, beauty and goodness. In her last wish, she expressed hope that she would be remembered as being kind. Jean was cremated in Arizona. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025 in New Jersey.
