Jerry Miller was a man inspired by a deep and lifelong curiosity. His pursuit of answers took him far beyond his hometown of Roseburg—sometimes just up the road to Toketee and Crater Lake, and other times across the world to places like Japan and Guam.
A proud member of the Roseburg High School Class of ’76, Jerry built his path through experience rather than formal education. He was known for learning on the job, working hard, and earning the respect of those around him. His dedication to the reforestation of Oregon’s public lands stands as a lasting contribution that will benefit generations to come.
Throughout his life, Jerry worked in a variety of jobs, but his most memorable and meaningful work was serving as a Hotshot for the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon. His time in the field shaped him deeply before he later retired to Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emmy Miller, and his oldest brother, Michael Miller. He is survived by his brothers Tony, Russell, and Matthew Miller.
Jerry had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed caring for farm animals, spending time with family and friends, and sharing laughter—often becoming, alongside his best friend Luke, the unapologetic life of the party. A dedicated Trekkie, he was also fascinated by space and astronomy, finding joy in gazing through his telescope at the night sky.
Though often a man of few words, Jerry was personable and sought friendship with nearly everyone he met. He was a kind soul who never had a bad word to say about anyone.
The family offers special gratitude to the Oregon and Arizona autism support organizations who encouraged and supported Jerry throughout his life’s journey.
Jerry will be remembered with love for his gentle spirit, his curiosity, and the joy he brought to those who knew him.
