JoAnn Gail (Roach) Durrani

The family of Jo Ann Gail (Roach) Durrani sadly announces the passing of their beloved Jo Ann Durrani. (Mrs. Hisam Durrani) on January 20, 2021. She fought a brave battle with leukemia and passed at her home in Tucson, Arizona. Born to Lester and Lucille Roach on May 5, 1942 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jo Ann was lovingly known as the Phi Beta Kappa of the family. Her sense of wit, compassion, world travels, and exciting life adventures led to a myriad of family and friends. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1960 and, always a lover of warm weather, attended two years of college at The University of Arizona at Tucson and completed her B.A. in Zoology at the University of Kansas in 1964. Following her graduation from college, JoAnn moved to L.A. where she enjoyed apartment living with her close friends from K.U., Jill and Sue, and began her career working in H.R. for a small medical practice. JoAnn married her beloved husband Hisam Durrani on June 8, 1969 in Topeka, Kansas. JoAnn and Hisam traveled widely before settling in Kabul, Afghanistan where their son and the delight of their lives, Timur Shah Durrani, was born in 1977. The family returned to the United States, lived in Alto Loma California and later moved to Tucson, AZ. JoAnn had an active and successful career as the HR Director of Raytheon in California and then Tucson. She is survived by her son, Timur Durrani, M.D., daughter-law, Samantha Johnston, M.D., and beloved granddaughters. Her sisters, Leslie Roach Anderson (Bill Anderson), Dr. Michele Roach Berg (Dr. Mel Berg) brother Tom Roach, niece Stacy Anderson (Daniel Caron) and nephew, Brian Roach. Jo Ann remains a joyous and loving gift. Thanks be to God.
