Johnnie Luna "Sonny" Torrez, 85, passed away on March 8, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his daughter Tanya Gutierrez (Pete); son Torrey; Kim Flowers; Brother Raul Torrez (Elvia) & family; Sister Rachel Acuna (George) & family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Thelma Torrez, daughter Rochelle Torrez, sister Alma M. Ruiz, father Aurelio Q Torrez & Mother Julia Luna Torrez .

Born on March 13, 1939, in Jerome, Arizona, Sonny lived a life marked by perseverance, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his goals. From a young age, he worked tirelessly—delivering milk as a child before taking on roles in construction, helping build houses in Bisbee and Benson. His industrious spirit led him to the mining industry in both Bisbee and California before he pursued higher education. He graduated from the University of Arizona in December 1972 and became a Certified Public Accountant in September 1981. His professional journey included working for the IRS beginning in May 1973 before establishing his own business in 1982.

Sonny was a devoted Catholic who carried his beliefs into every aspect of his life. He also served in the Army Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to service. Beyond his career and commitments, he had a passion for sports—especially football and boxing—and took great joy in his daily walks with his dog Chloe.

Sonny was known for his resilience and wisdom. He approached life with determination, achieving every goal he set for himself. He had a gift for motivating others and cherished meeting new people. Above all else, he was a caring father who provided guidance and support to those around him.

Sonny’s legacy is one of hard work, perseverance, and kindness. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted. May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the strength and warmth he shared with the world.
