

Judith McNeill, a longtime resident of Tucson, passed away on Friday, August 16th. Born on April 2, 1935 in Chicago, IL, to Kenneth and Marjorie Austin. She received her Nursing Diploma from South Chicago Community Hospital in 1957 and soon after married a dashing Air Force Pilot and the love of her life, Frederick McNeill. they built their family while stationed at various military bases across the country. When Fred served several tours in Viet Nam, Judy managed the home front caring for their 7 children. After Fred retired from the Air Force to attend law school, Judy worked as a registered nurse at Tucson Medical Center. Fred and Judy made many friends and lived active, adventurous lives. a large family never slowed down their love of travel. they camped their way across the US, and they loved travelling throughout Sonora, spending many weekends on Rocky Point beaches. When Fred left his law practice, they lived aboard a 51-foot sailboat cruising the Sea of Cortez. Their wanderlust took them to Panama and Germany, where Judy worked as a Civilian Nurse. Upon their return to Tucson they enjoyed a retirement filled with children, grandchildren, and lifelong friends. After losing Fred to cancer, Judy lived a life surrounded by loving family and her passion for creating art. She was an accomplished artist who loved experimenting with watercolor, batik, colored pencil, and charcoal. Fiercely independent. She enjoyed living on her own and during the last years of her life at Atria Valley manor, where she befriended many of her lovely neighbors. Most of all she adored spending time with family, all of whom were with her during her final days. She was a remarkable woman who lived life vibrantly, passionately, and creatively.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, her daughter, Patricia and her sister, Joan. Survived by her children, Marjorie (Nick), Tamelyn (David), Ken (Lisa), Darcy (Phil), Sean and Meghan. She also leaves a legacy of 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who called her GiGi (short for Grama Grama). In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there.
There will be a Celebration of Life on October 20, 2024 from 11:00-1:00 pm at San Pedro Chapel, 5230 E. Ft. Lowell Road, Tucson AZ
