Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 9, 1930, to Charles and Madge Gibson.
Kathryn and her husband worked together, starting out in 1945 at Sweetland’s Ice Cream in Flint, Michigan and ending in 1995 at The Drapery Man in Tucson, Arizona. But that’s not where her work ended. She spent her lifetime working tirelessly to make everyone around her happy and comfortable. She was the family’s matriarch and taught everyone what it meant to work hard and put others first. Everyone that knew her would say she was the sweetest person they had ever met.
Her pastimes were golfing, which she did until her late eighties, and reading, which she did every free moment she had. She would finish a romance novel every few days. She loved to argue that she didn’t read romance novels and that they were detective novels, but we all knew the truth. Her greatest joy in life was her family and she made sure everyone she talked to knew it!
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband Paul A Wertman, and daughter Karen M Stewart. Her surviving family will greatly miss her: daughter, Paula K Vandever (Woodrow); son, Mark A Wertman; daughter, Jill A Keller (Todd); grandchildren, Kathryn Vandever, Paul Preston (Lynea), Bryan Preston (Miranda), Megan Davis (Chad), Michelle Dupee (Steve) and Jessica Wertman; great grandchildren; Madison Petzoldt, Bennett Preston, Maysen Petzoldt, Taylor Dupee, Blake Preston, Sydney Preston and three on the way.
Services to be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ on Saturday, August 7th. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Funeral services at 11am with interment to follow. The family would like to invite all who attend to a reception in the East Lawn Palms Reception Hall, immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathryn’s name, to Wounded Warrior Project are appreciated.
