December 22, 1992- April 26, 2016
Lauren was born December 22, 1992 in Tucson, Arizona to Kurt and Mary Newton. She is survived by her mother, her step father Benjamin Korn, her older brother Alexander Newton, her maternal Grandparents; Antonio and Jane Celaya, her step grandparents; Steven and Helen Korn and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Patricia Newton. Surviving family also includes numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. She will truly be missed by her family, her countless friends who cared for and supported her and the man who loved her, Nick Gyuro.
Lauren was a beautiful, intelligent, young woman. She was a gifted writer and photographer. She had hoped to someday move to the Northwest, or Alaska. She wanted to experience the solitude and beauty, to capture it in pictures, and to walk in the memories of her trips there with her beloved father, Kurt.
Lauren lost her father to cancer when she was only 16 and was devastated by his passing. Her heart never healed. Lauren’s grief was the inspiration for her career choice. She was compelled by her own experience to help others at their time of loss. She received a degree in Mortuary Science in 2015, was a member of Tau Chapter- Sigma Phi Sigma, and had begun her career working at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. She had found her calling; a way to care for families of the deceased and help them heal.
Lauren’s friends will tell you how easy she was to talk to, how open and non-judgmental she was, and that she was extremely generous. Her family will tell you how strong-willed and courageous she was. We watched her fight to be independent, battle with her grief, and conquer one life-goal after another. Lauren had found her way to a healthy life path through hard work and self-discipline. Her new personal motto, written in bold on her mirror, stated, “What can you do TODAY to make a positive change?”
Lauren had been hospitalized since late December. She lived her last days as she lived her life, on her own terms, fighting like hell to be well…fighting to her very last breath.
If you wish to honor Lauren’s memory, become an organ donor, give blood, get on the national bone marrow donors registry, or consider becoming a live organ donor.
A Memorial Service will be held for Lauren at 3 p.m. on May 6, 2016 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, Arizona.
Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
