Leticia Leon or Nana Lety as her great grand children called her was born in Caborca Sonora in 1937, she was the 7th out of 9 children, so yes she grew up in a very large, loving and protective family. In 1948 her Mother moved the family to Sonoyta Sonora, where she met the love of her life in 1949, they were both 12 years old. Ricardo León fell head over heels for the young Lady, and of course she was very curious about the young Man. She went on to say that curiosity soon changed. It was his charming ways, his gentlemanly manners and his hard working ethics that caught her eye and of coarse his persistence, at the age of 12 he drove a big truck that carried materials to build the road from Sonoyta to San Luis, he worked like a man, along side men that were three times his age. What her favorite attributes about him were his sense of humor and his dance moves. When they were 15 he asked her mother for her hand in marriage, the wise Doña Rosario’s answer was, that at 15 a girl was a woman, but at 15 a man was not a man, and that if he really loved her, he could wait till they were at the very least 20, so wait he did, in 1957 he turned 20 on May 1st and he married her June 1st, she was not quite 20. They went on to have 5 children, which they raised in Yuma Arizona.
While raising her children she worked as a citrus packer for Yuma Mesa Citrus Growers, and as a cook for El Charro Cafe and The Latin Quarters. She also was an active member of the Catholic Community, where she was a member of The Guadalupana’s, and The Legion de Maria. In 1990 she followed her grandchildren whom had just moved to Tucson and she could not live without, while in Tucson she doted on her grandchildren, and was a huge participant in their everyday life. Her children, grand children, great grand children were her love/life, besides her Church where she continued to participate as a member of The Legion de Maria and The Guadalupana’s where she made life long friends.
They would have been married 69 years this past June 1st, their love story was like no other, so admirable.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Ricardo) her son (Ricardo Enrique), her parents Tomas and Rosario and 8 siblings, she is the last of her family (Los Federico’s).
She is survived by four children Mariza, Hortencia (Jose), Myrna (Octavio) and Juan (Elizabeth)
16 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. She will be remembered by the love she had for her Savior and her family, her love for singing and her slick dance moves, her sense of humor and her love for laughter. She will be greatly missed.
Until we meet again. ♥️
