Linda Bernstein Vogel, after a long and brave fight against cancer, died peacefully at home in Tucson on November 18, 2025. She was 81 years old. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Jaya Vogel and Samira Perry; her son-in-law, Patrick Perry; her sister, Sheila Silverman; her nephew, Michael Silverman; and her nieces, Lisa Soehn and Joanne Greyson.
Linda was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 2, 1944. She graduated from Brooklyn College with degrees in math and education and earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin.
She began her career in computer technology at a time when few women worked in the field. She was a Computer Analyst for the Office of Research and Statistics at the Social Security Administration, and later at the Statistics of Income Division of the Internal Revenue Service. She taught computer programming at Santa Fe Community College in Florida and Pima Community College in Tucson.
Her husband, the late Ronald J. Vogel, was an economist for the International Monetary Fund and later Professor at the University of Arizona. Linda and Ron traveled much of the world. For a year they lived in Sudan, where Ron was a consultant to the Sudanese government. With dauntless intrepidity, they traveled through Sudan in a camper van. In a later chapter of life, they lived on a boat in the Caribbean.
In retirement, Linda's joie de vivre seemed inexhaustible. She read voluminously, studied the piano, took dance classes, knitted complex and beautiful sweaters for her family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed playing various games with friends and family. She was a proud parent to many Golden Retrievers over the years as well as a grandparent to her little Deny-Penny who stayed by her side through her illness.
Linda awoke glad feelings in everyone she met. Her family and many devoted friends will miss her every day.
Special thanks to Agape Hospice for the incredible care and compassion they provided to our mother and our family.
A celebration of life will be held privately at a later date. Donations in her honor should be made to a charity of your choice.
