Madge Marie Ashby

After fighting a long battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Madge “Marie” Ashby died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. She was born in Marion, Virginia on October 3, 1936 to Sherman and Georgia Winebarger. Her early education was in Virginia but she graduated high school in Alamogordo, New Mexico. While visiting and living with her brother in Alamogordo, she met her future husband Donald L. Ashby, Sr. They were married on March 17, 1956 and had celebrated 63 years of marriage this past March. During her working career, Marie was employed as an accountant for a local car dealership, served as the deputy court clerk for Otero County in the 1970’s, and as an accountant at the local utility company until her retirement in 2000. In 2001, Donald retired from Civil Service and in 2003, they made the decision to make their home in Tucson, Arizona. She enjoyed traveling, reading books of all genre, and visiting with family, loved ones and especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her husband, Donald L. Ashby, Sr., three (3) children—sons, Donald L. Ashby, Jr. and wife Donna of Taos, New Mexico, and Stephen Ray Ashby and wife Michele of Odessa, Texas; and daughter Karen Eggers and husband Kevin of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by four (4) granddaughters, Michelle Vega and husband Carlos of Austin, Texas; Renee Williams and husband John of Tucson, Arizona; Mindy Weeden and husband Lukas of Round Rock, Texas, and Maecy Ashby of Austin, Texas; two (2) grandsons, Scott Ashby and wife Arasely of Clovis, New Mexico, and John Thomas Ashby and wife Brittany of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by ten (10) great-grandchildren, Zackary and Eli Fish (Vega) of Austin, Texas; Larissa Ann and Bobby McWhirter, of Tucson, Arizona; Tyler, Luke and Blake Ashby of Clovis, New Mexico; and Grace, Kaydence and Donovan Ashby of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister Phyllis Harris of Mendota, Tennessee; niece, Stephanie Currie, of Mendota, Tennessee; and dear friend, Carol Herron of Noble, Oklahoma. Preceding her in death were her parents, Sherman and Georgia Winebarger of Marion, Virginia; great-grandson Noah Ashby of Clovis, New Mexico; two brothers; and five sisters.
