

Tucson, Arizona- Margaret A. Ingram Kollus, former long time resident of Girard and Liberty, passed away at Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging in Tucson, Arizona on November 19, 2016. She was 99 years old.
Margaret was born to Thomas F. and Mary Ingram on May 8, 1917 in Girard, Ohio. She graduated from Girard High School in 1935. As a young woman, she worked at the Ohio Leather Works in Girard.
In May, 1940, Margaret married Louis G. Kollus. They had two children Thomas and Rita.
Being a stay-at-home mother, she was also actively involved in the Loy’s Corners E.U.B. Church where she taught Sunday School and often sang solos during the services.
Margaret also was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts, active in the Trumbull County Extension program, a 4H leader, and was a member and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 235, Girard, Ohio. She continued her 63 year membership after she and Louis moved to Tucson in 1978 with the American Legion Aux. Unit 35 where she served as Chaplain. Margaret also was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW No. 549 in Tucson.
Margaret was the first manager of the Fanny Farmer Store that opened in the Liberty Plaza. She then became an employee of the Strouss-Hirshberg Company where she worked for 12 years.
She enjoyed homemaking, was an excellent cook, seamstress, and a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. If ever a volunteer was needed, Margaret would be there.
Survivors include: son Thomas (Janet) Kollus, daughter Rita (Ronald) Slovan, grandchildren Bryan and David Kollus, and Jared and Polly Slovan, plus six great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Louis and her sister, Gertrude, who passed away at the age of 9.
Services for the family will be held Jan. 7, 2017 at Desert Palms Church PCA, Chandler, AZ.
